I am on a few meds for high blood pressure and since i started the meds i have had stomach problems burping dry heaves upper stomach discomfort . I was given omeprazole for an inflammed stomach. The symptons somewhat subsided but never totally cleared up. For the last 2 days since starting another med for bp i cant stop burping no pains just a slight discomfort in the chest and a slight burning when i move about i dont have any regurgatation of anything just a sour taste at times i have also had a strange palpatation and had a hot flush which is making me panic thinking it may be my heart or something bad. gaviscon does not get rid of the burping. Any advice please dont scare me lol. vonny x

way too many possibilities. I am not brushing you off, but seriously, there are just too many possibilities. Link close with your doctor is my best advice.

I've heard a lot of people talk about how their blood pressure meds aggravate their GERD. So this could be just a bad side effect of the meds. But I agree with WanderingVet, you should really get with your doctor and try to find a combination that will work for you, or to rule out any other problems. Good luck! Hugs, Sue

hello vonnyzzz, my dad has the burping thing going on too. He has been through many tests and nothing shows up except they tell him he has GERD. He is on 2 medications for it one is Protonix and one is Zantac to give him relief. Thing is he is constantly burping and doctors are baffle at why he is. He has tried many things over the years to get rid of them. I agree about going to your doctor and telling him everything you just wrote down here. Maybe your doctor can try a different med on you to see if you do not get the burps. Just a thought have you tried taking a pro biotic for your stomach? They help a lot. I hope you can find out what is troubling you and you can get it taken care of quickly.

Hi, i also have the burping thing, not like big loud burps, but just air...and then food usually comes up with it and it tastes aawful!! I don't know what to do about it either, but i have an eating disorder and i know that is why i developed GERD. My heart also acts funny when this happens. I cannot tell whether it is from the ED or the GERD! Or both?!
Good luck to you, your doctor should help if you explain everything very thoroughly :)

Oooooh, coffee is probably not a good idea, that's a huge no-no for GERD! And affects the heart too.

Hi Vonny,
What bp meds are you on now? I have GERD and gastritis and they are both aggrivated big tie by bp meds. I'm taking atenolol (a beta blocker), which does not aggravate and atacand (candesartan), an ARB blocker which aggravates big time AND makes me very spacey, shaky, and anxious. I figured this out through the process of elimination. I'm going to change the atacand to something else; I expect the GERD/gastritis symptoms to continue, but hopefullyl the spaciness, etc. will go away. I take Pepcid (famotidine) for the gastro symptoms 40 mg 2xaday and am going to try a new ppi, Kapidex, once I change the bp med. I only want to try one new med at a time to figure out what causes what symptoms.

Vonnyzzzz. are you still taking the omeprazole? I have exactly the same problem w/ bp meds, and it appears others in this group do too. I have stomach burning and GERD symptoms every day. I rarely have any problems at night. I have not tried ppi's yet even though I have samples from my dr. What works for me, for the most part, is really watching my diet and I take 40mg. of famotidine in the a.m., and 40mg. at bedtime. I have been using this dose for a couple weeks now. It seems to work better than what I was doing before which was 40 mg.here, 20 mg. there, etc.

I DON'T WANT TO SCARE YOU, I JUST WANT TO SEE YOU GO TO A SPECIALIST THAT DEALS WITH GERD AND FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND OUT. I HAVE GERD/BARRETTS DISEASE AND I SURE DO HAVE TO WATCH MY DIET. I HAD IT UNDER REMISSION BUT BECAUSE OF ANXIETY AND MY DIVORCE, IT'S BACK AGAIN. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO EAT RIGHT EITHER. LET ME KNOW HOW YOU ARE.
