Confused about Barretts - Please help

I have been suffering from LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux) for almost a year now. I recently went to a GI Specialist and had an upper endoscopy done - she found mild gastritis. Then I had a Barium Swallow - and was officially diagnosed with GERD. My symptoms are only in the throat region (Globus sensation, pain, inflammation, redness) which varies in intensity from day to day, but nonetheless is CONSTANT. It is beyond frustrating and uncomfortable.
My GI doctor told me a biopsy of my stomach came back negative following my EGD and she said I don't have Barrett's. So my question is... wouldn't she need to biopsy my esophagus/throat to determine a diagnosis for Barretts?? Does this seem right to anyone, because I'm not sure what to do and I am afraid that I do have it but wasn't tested properly. Posted on 07/21/12, 05:50 pm |

If she followed protocol she biopsied all the way down to the small intestine. She should have given you a report from the endo. If she didn't call and ask for one. Most GI's will even give you pics of the endo if you request it. Mine did.

I too, got photographs that showed my Barrett's Esophagus. You are entitled to have those pictures and all of the reports. It may cost you a quarter a piece but good to have.
