I have been suffering with severe GERD since my early 20's (I am now almost 33). I have had this recurring thing happening that I am told is from GERD and was wondering if anyone else experiences the same thing.
I get palpatations or spasms anywhere between the lower part of the breast bone all the way up to my throat. I also seem to get them across the top of my left breast/chest area. Sometimes it is quick and intense and sometimes it is mild but goes on for hours. Sometimes it feels like my throat is going to close up too and I'll have trouble breathing which is usally when I start panicking which of course makes it worse. Does anyone else experience this? Sometimes it is just intense pressure or a squeezing feeling. I have been to the emergency room and/or doctor about this so many times it's ridiculous and I have been told over and over it is not my heart but it is indeed GERD symptoms but every time I am sure I am going to have a heart attack. My doctor wants me to have the surgery where they take your stomach and wrap it around your esophagus but that scares the you know what out of me! Has anyone had this surgery??? Hi mystary Im sorry you are going through this. I get a lot of pain and have reflux. I have a hiatus hernia and gastritis. Its a living hell the pain I get and struggling to eat. I don't get it in my throat though. I was getting oesophagheal spasms a while back too which was agony. The hospital kept testing me for my heart, even though they must have known it was my stomach. Ive spent weekends in hospital with chest pain. I had the ph monitoring test recently, even though I had reflux during it they don't think its bad enough for the op. I would discuss it thoroughly with your doctor before making any decisions. It may be your only option. Find forums like Medhelp.org that may have discussions on the wrap. I know some do ok with it. It is scary but if it would help I would have gone for it to get rid of this. I don't know what will happen now with me but my gastro was on about scans so looks like thats next.

I have ben tested for my heart multiple times too. I just can't believe that it is all of a sudden getting so bad that I can barely eat, yet they tell me I don't have an ulcer or a hiatal hernia. I emailed the surgeon today and asked her to send me as much information ont he surgery as possible, Guess we'll see!
Thanks so much for the support :)
