Today I had just ate some stir fry dish with chicken and all of a sudden I get this pain in my throat that radiates to my chest. Then I started freaking out and sweating and started to feel hot. very scary. I guess im so afraid of getting a heart attack that any little thing freaks me out.Is that a normal symptom of Acid Reflux? I have felt this before but not the sweating part.
I seriously thought i was about to have a heart attack then I took my medicine and now it went away. Posted on 11/06/09, 04:11 pm |

It was most likely the acid reflux. Sometimes this can cause esophageal spasms. I get them occasionally, and they are very painful, and very scary. The best thing I can think of to do is just breath deeply and slowly, and perhaps take a drink of something, like water.
I've also had them in my sleep, and they can wake me up. I try to relax and breathe through it. But yes, it is very scary. You might want to mention them to your doctor. Hugs, Sue

It is exactly what I get. Reply 1 is right it is probably esophageal spasms. When I first started doing this because I also have a heart valve problem they ran me thru all the heart tests. Not heart. Esophageal spasms can feel scary and the sweats are just as bad. They wake me up. Deep breathing helps. You do need to see your dr. Will do an endoscope - you don't want to develop pre Barretts or Barretts. Best wishes.

I have had this happen to me before also. The spasms are terrible, and painful. I wish you the best!
