I am new and I have been just diagnosed with GERD. It started when I was pregnant and has continued since. Is it supposed to make you feel so bad ?! Like I went to subway had a turkey sandwich with onions and tomatoes, oil, vinegar, and the southwest chipolte sauce and now I feel like crap. I keep getting these little pains in my chest. I have a sour taste in my throat. I feel nauseated and feel like I have to go to the bathroom and everytime I burp it feels like something wants to come up. Im sorry a little TMI but I just feel really bad!. Does anyone else feel like that especially after eating something that does not agree with you. I think im going to stop eating tomatoes cause I cooked spagetti a couple of weeks ago and felt the same exact way. Sometimes it gets so bad it makes me think something is wrong with my heart. Ive had a few test ran for that and everything came back fine. Just here for support.

Hi blessed, and welcome to our group! You've already found out that tomatoes are one of the worst foods for us. Most GERD diets tell you to eliminate the following at least: tomatoes, onions, mint, chocolate, caffeine, all citrus fruits and juices, fried or fatty foods, and, sorry to say, chocolate.
So that sandwich you had at Subway was a recipe for disaster for you. But, I've found that if I ask to have them hold the tomatoes and onions, I can do just fine at Subway. Also, I've found that many pizza places will make your pizza without tomato sauce. It may seem strange, but I actually like it that way. I hope that you are getting a prescription from your doctor for an appropriate medicine. Also, please consider raising the head of your bed at night. Put bricks or blocks under the legs at the head of the bed, don't just use pillows. But you could buy one of those special wedge pillows if you think it will work for you. Good luck, and I hope you get some relief very soon. Hugs, Sue

Welcome Blessed.
I agree w/ Sue the strict diet change along w/ the medication depending on type and dosage, does help to control GERD. The same for using a wedge or raising your bed. . Trying to control GERD now will hopefully will cause less problems for you in the future, since some people w/ GERD can develop whats known as Barrett' s Esophagus. Good Luck :D
