Hi there! I'm taking Prilosec 20mg twice a day and Pepcid AC twice a day, plus some Tums and Maalox interspersed. I have a wicked case of GERD due to chemo. Thank goodness I only have 12 more weeks of this poison. Any advice on something that will stop this incessant belching? Very annoying. Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

I get that problem too when I eat a lot of carbs. It seems that carbs is what triggers gerd with me but that isn't the case for everyone. There was a study done proving that low carb diets do improve digestion in those suffering from GERD. Luckily, I am one of those that truly benefits from a low carb diet.
Try limiting the breads, rice, potatoes, pastas and certain fruits such as bananas that are low in fiber. See what happens if you have scrambled eggs for breakfast (No milk or OJ). Chicken salad for lunch (no yogurt). Fish/Chicken/Turkey/Steak for dinner with some green vegetables. If you do not notice an huge improvement in 24 hours then it is obviously not for you. The study done revealed that those with GERD have a weakened sphincter muscle that opens up allowing stomach gas to travel up the esophagus causing pain. They said the belching is often due to food fermenting in the stomach especially from carbohydrate type of foods. This fermenting produces gas that forces the weakened sphincter muscle to open and that is what causes belching in people like me. It also causes a sense of being bloated too. Can't say that this will work for you but it is worth a try as it can't hurt. I personally do not follow a strict low-carb diet as it is too hard. At first I was a little strict and then allowed more carbs into the diet but was careful not to go overboard.

Thanks, Dave777! I will try ANYTHING at this point. I am actually on my way right now to a GI doctor's appointment. I hope relief is in sight soon! :-)
