I have had the same problem. In fact my irritated throat got soooo bad I had no voice for about 3 months. Finally I got into the ENT and he said I had acid reflux. Increased my prevacid from 30mg per day to 60mg per day (one tablet in am and one before bed). Took almost a month to heal enough to make a difference. But it really works for me. In fact I was doing sooooooo good, I thought I would skip the nighttime tablet - last night. Boy am I regetting it. Somebody on DS told me that 60mg of prevacid was bad for me. However I checked with both the ENT and my GP and then said prevacid has been around for a long time and their are people who take 300-400mg/day for other reasons - no problem.
Another thing that I found that made a big difference -- I used to take a multi-vit (prescript good stuff) at night before I went to bed. I took it at night because it would make me nauseated during the day. But I think it was causing acid at night. My GP said that the iron in it could very well be causing problems. Bottom line -- it will take some time to undo the damage that has been done to your throat. Take the meds (see if the ENT will prescribe something stronger then otc prilosec -- so your prescript insurance will cover it), give it some time.
