Intolerance vs. Malabsorption

Hi. I'm new to this group. I think what my daughter and I have is fructose malabsorption. We don't get seriously ill. We get painfully uncomfortable.

Is this a group just for those with intolerance--meaning they cannot have any form of fructose at all (no table sugar, etc.), or you risk kidney or liver damage?

I'm just trying to figure this all out.

" Hi, I must be like you. I am new to this as well. Just diagnosed 3 weeks ago after struggling with stomach issues for months. I have been trying the diet for 3 weeks with moderate success. How are you doing? "

" Many or most of the people in this group have fructose malabsorbtion like you.
Have you been diagnosed and how much guidance did the doctor give you? "

" Hi, I, also, am new to the group, but was diagnosed with "intolerances" 5 years ago - I work with it daily! Nice to have people to relate to.
What to eat, what not to eat? Should haves, could haves, would haves.....! I am still learning what to avoid. At the beginning my biggest issue was what could I eat? Now I try to look at what I am able to eat rather that what I can't. All in all it is a much healthier diet that requires a lot of prep and thought! "

" Hi, I am pretty sure that table sugar, ie cane sugar (invert sugar) and glucose are just fine with a fructose intolerance. It is fructose sugar and all it's derivatives that are the baddies, also honey. This means a lot of fruit but not all by any means. Some fruits have more fructose content than others. Apples and pears being an example of high fructose content. They are high in pectin. I am finding it very hard to find a list of vegetables high in fructose to is the same as another list on another website. They can differ greatly. For example on one list I saw that asparagus is a no no and on another list it said that is it just fine to eat it.

I, too am new to this, but discovering new stuff daily. I can eat white bread just fine, as long as it has the right sugar in it. But I am missing my fruits and tomatoes and carrots.

FOM do you experience problems when you eat out at friends houses and at restaurants. I am going to a restaurant on Sunday and sort of dreading it as I have a big occasion then next day when I need to feel just fine! Any advice as a 5 yr old 'Fructose Intolerancer' will be greatly received. "
