Fructose:Glucose ratio...and sorbitol

I've found out the chart which suggests that symptoms of fructose intolerance are triggered by foods with:
- high amount of fructose
- high fructose/glucose ratio
- high amount of sorbitol

That's theory.

Can someone with DFI write down a list of foods, he/she can't/can tolerate, with rough estimation of tolerable amount, so I can compare them with the chart? I'm just investigating this issue.

Only, AFTER I get some data from you, I'll put here the link ofv that chart, since I don't want to influence your lists. :)

" I've only very recently been diagnosed so I'm still figuring it all out. I know that I haven't been able to tolerate any fruit so far. No onions, garlic. Vegetables: I can have asparagus, peppers, but only small quantities, like a few small pieces of each. Haven't experimented enough with other veggies for answers, except that carrots and corn have been regretted. No sugars so far except for small quantities of cane sugar. Sugar substitues: definitely NOT Splenda. I can, however, have saccharin (Sweet n Low) and aspartame. White sugar/fructose-free fresh breads (no brown), white rice, white potato (no sweet potatoes). But when I have carbs, I can only handle 1-2 servings per day, depending on the size of the servings... All I can think of at the moment.

" Wheat, onions, garlic and asparagus are FRUCTANS, so it's possible you also can't tolerate leek, asparagus, Jerusalem artichoke, and chicory.

MY QUESTION: Can you tolerate barley, rye, bananas and lettuce?
And dandelion greens, radicchio, mumong, yacon, burdock scorzonera

Other problematic foods are thos e with SORBITOL: "sugar free" chewing gum, "diet cola", diabetic foods and all "low calory" foods. Also stone fruits (peaches, cherries, plums, prunes...) Sorbitol is widely used sweetener...

Then you should avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), honey and other foods with high fructose:glucose ratio.

I don't eat apples, pears, grapes, raisins, cherries, blueberries, cranberries.

I am trying rye crisp bread but I still eat homemade white bread. "

" - wheat - yes
- onions - yes, but not raw
- raspberries - yes
- strawberries - yes
- oranges - yes
- corn ? - yes, I think so. I have just recently had corn on the cob but noticed no ill effects.
- I eat peaches, nectarines, apricots

On the other hand, I have never been on a diet that restricts any of these, ie wheat, so I don't know if I would feel better if off them.

My dad has celiac disease which may be connected because when I go home for the summer, I eat a lot less wheat in foods that he eats but I still eat my mom's homemade wheat buns. I am depressed and on medication so I wonder if I should cut more things out. I am also lactose intolerant. "

" If you can eat peaches and nectarines, then I'm not sure if you have fructose malabsorption. Anyway, try honey - few spoons - it contains a lot of fructose. If you can tolerate it, then you don't have fructose malabsorption.

Yes, I've seen the article in your above link, and I've even written an article about FODMAP diet. FODMAP diet is basically low-sugar diet + fructans (wheat, onions, inulin...) excluded.

" Close Fructose Intolerance I selfdiagnosed lactose intolerance 25 yrs ago. I quit drinking milk. When I did drink milk, I was SICK. 15 years ago, I was sick for about 5 months-no energy, diarrhea, gas. I went to my parents for the summer and felt great - ate raspberries, rhubarb, garden veggies. Went back to work-had apples, apples, and more apples and was I sick. That clued me in. Eventually I wasn't eating apples, pears, blueberries, cranberries, grapes, plums, raisins, and so on. I also suffer from depression which is related. "

" What would you consider a low fructose diet?

I don't eat a lot of fruits or drink pop. Basically I am symptomless as long as I stay away from the list. "
