Son is to be soon tested for FXS

Hi all,

I just joined this support group and could use someone to chat with that is well versed in FXS.

I recently adopted two children from foster care and truly believe they have been misdiagnosed and have Fragile X.. My son is to begin genetic testing within a few weeks.

I'm nervous and feel that I could use someone to discuss this with--especially someone who knows where I'm coming from. I just realized there are not many contributers to this particular group, but I thought perhaps another parent of a FXS child, or someone living with FXS would also benefit from some chat.

Thanks a bunch...
Peace and Shine On,
Sandy

" Just a few more weeks 'til my son's appointment. I can't believe it's almost here. Hospital decided to let him go straight to genetics...this is a good thing. I'm sure the appointment is the first of many before actually getting a dx. Wish I could speed up time. "

" Yesterday, my son went to genetics. The doctor and genetics counselor were terrific. Both stated they suspected fragile X but doctor also ordered two other tests to check for chromosome abnormalities. I was worried I put the cart before the horse on this one but doctor stated that I was in the right place. She stated with his behavioral history and family history, beginning with genetics is the perfect start. I was so relieved. Now we have about 4 weeks to wait. sigh. "
