I srated my son on Risperdal. It's working to controle his tantrums, but one of th e side affects is that he is hungry all the time. He's already a little overweight. Is anyone else medicating? What do you use and is it helping?

" We don't medicate but I have heard from other moms that Risperdal can cause them to eat a lot and gain weight. "

" My son, who has a high end premutation that is partially methylated, is on risperdal. It is controlling his tantrums really well. We are not having the hunger issues but I have a friend whose son is on risperdal and has gained a lot of weight. Their doctor switched him to abilify. Goood luck! "

" My son is on Abilify, a mood stabilizer. It seems to calm him down quite a bit. My doctor chose not to put him on Risperdal because of the side effect of weigh gain. My Doc also said that we could also try Clonodine. Good Luck! Aleise "
