I have always loved the idea of being a foster mother. My (aunt) was a foster child to my grandma and I can not think of anything more rewarding than to be able to care for a child in need but I have 2 small children of my own and am not sure if it would be responsible to potentially bring a child with serious issues into my home. If anyone who is a foster parent that has their own children that they care for could tell me how they handled it or any suggestions. I know that I want to do it eventually I just dont know if I should do it now or if I should wait until my children are older

My DH has 2 kids from a previous relationship and we are planning on being foster parents. At this point, I can't say how it will work, but we are confident that it will. His kids are 9 & 12 and we are limiting ourselves to 0-4 to keep things easier on the bio kids.
Also, a good friend of mine has had foster kids since her oldest was 10 or 11. Her boys are incredible with the foster kids and have to make sacrifices and adjustments, but they are all great kids. They all help take care of the foster kids and help with foster related activities and volunteering. I think it can be a wonderful experience for everyone. I think the trick is being maybe a bit more particular about the child(ren) you bring into your home to make sure it's a good fit for you as well as them.
