We have had twins (a boy and a girl) since they were 3 days old straight out of the hospital, their mom's rights just got terminated in January of 2012 and we took their 4 year old sister, we plan on adopting all 3 of them. I am soooooo scared that their mom is going to get them back or a family member will get them. I am having a hard time with this. How often do they take children away from foster parents who want to adopt them when they've had them since birth? Also does anyone know how the appealing termination works? Like does anyone know what the chance is of them saying that her appeal is approved and she'd get more time to get the kids back or she could get them back? HELP!!!! Thanks.

From my experience the appeal of termination is just a review of the case file to be sure that everything is legal. It does not include rehashing the case. It is just supposed to be a review of the legality of the termination. If all laws were followed in giving the parents a fair hearing then the termination stands. Two of our children just had their parents' rights terminated. We now have to go through a 90 day waiting period to see if an appeal is filed. We are six weeks away from the termination hearing on four of our other children. It is always an emotional process. Will be praying that your situation remains positive and that your adoption goes smoothly.
