A few hours ago my picked me up, and went out to an early dinner at a new restaurant. After eating, when we got in the car my mum noticed that I had a splotchy rash all over my neck, so I pulled out my hydro-cortisone cream and rubbed it on. I only get rashes, so I didn't think much of it. When my mom dropped me off at home about half an hour after eating, my tummy started to cramp up so I went to the bathroom, and while I was there, I started to feel like no matter how hard I tried I could never get enough air, and my chest felt all tight, and my heart beat got all irregular and slow, and my eyes started watering. I'm allergic to grass, so my eyes water all of the time, I took some benadryl like I usually do for watery eyes, and about half an hour later, the other symptoms subsided. I don't know if that was just coincidence, or if was I having some kind of allergic reaction and that is why the benadryl helped everything. What do you think? And if it was an allergy how will I figure out what triggered it?

Thanks,

Tisha

PS> If it helps, I'm 18, female, have mild cough variant asthma (but I've never had a serious attack, just coughing fits), allergic to grass (stupid spring time) and am prone to rashes, usually caused from stress, or the consumption of that artificial dried yogurt coating they put on candy (which was not in my meel).

" That sounds like an allergic reaction, all right, but I agree it could have been something else, too -- low blood sugar, anxiety, etc. I would follow up with an MD to try to get to the bottom of it.

If you are allergic to grass, you should maybe get re-tested to see if you are starting to react to other plants in the grass family (like corn) or if you are developing entirely new allergies. "

" Rash + gastrointestinal symptoms + difficulty breathing are all possible symptoms of a severe allergic reaction.

Please see an allergist who understands food allergies and get tested to see whether you are allergic. Especially as food allergies combined with asthma is very serious.

Also, benedryl doesn't stop allergic reactions, it just takes some of the non-life-threatening symptoms away. So benadryl without any other treatment is dangerous to those with life-threatening allergies. "

" If it happens again go to an emergency room immediately. Each time you are exposed to an allergin the symptoms get worse. Remember what you ate and ask the restaurant to help you find out what ingredients were used to prepare your food. This is serious. "
