I recently found out I am allergic to 42 different foods and was put on an elimination diet which took out even more foods. The following are my allergies:
Almonds Barley Beans: Kidney, Navy, Pinto Citrus- All. So that includes grapes, grapefruit, lemon, orange, lime, pineapple, etc. and anything that has citric acid in it. Cheese Cherry Clove Coconut Corn Cumin Currants Dates Eggs Eggplant Garlic Malt Milk: Cow & Goat Mustard Oats Papaya Pepper: B/W, Cayenne, Green and Red Rice Rye Safflower Rape Seed (Canola) Sesame Tomato Vanilla Wheat Watermelon Yeast: Baker's and Brewer's and, due to the elimination diet, I cannot have these things either: Alfalfa Apples Apricots Beans: Green, Lima, Mung Soybeans (so no soy at all, which is in just about everything.) Beef Blackberry Broccoli Brussels Sprouts Cabbage Cauliflower Horseradish Lamb Millet Mushroom Nectarine Paprika Pea Peach Peanut Pear Pimento Plum Potato: White. ((I can have sweet potato's though.)) Radish Raspberry Strawberry Sugar Tangerine Turnip My allergic reactions are drowsiness and mood swings. I know this doesn't sound terrible, but when I say drowsiness, I mean it will be the middle of the day and I'm ready for bed. Before I started my elimination diet I would sleep for 18 hours a day because I could not function. Now it seems every time I eat I need to sleep for at least an hour or two (depending on what I eat) in order to function again. So if that's not enough, this is all causing me incredible anxiety. Anyway. If anyone has any suggestions about what I can eat, or helpful websites etc. that would be fantastic! Posted on 06/26/09, 12:06 pm |

Hi; There is a great website called Cooking Allergy free, with recipes and blogs.
You enter all your food allergies when you log on, and then you can search recipes that do not have the foods that you are allergic to, or a 'warning' about certain ingredients, it has really helped me alot. Good luck with your elimination diet, you may find that you are not allergic to this many foods in the longrun.

Did you take the immuno lab blood test? That's the one I took and have 35 reactions. Isn't it hard? I find myself becoming an in depth label reader and allergy book buyer these days. :)
alfalfa cantaloupe celery cheese cherry chili pepper cinnamon clam clove crab cranberry garlic ginger lobster cows milk goats milk mushroom mustard nutmeg onion oregano oyster b/w pepper pineapple quinoa rice (nutritionist lets me have it though) sage scallops shrimp sugar, cane tomato wheat baker's yeast brewer's yeast and if two or more are from the same food family you can't have the whole food family. Interesting to look into. I just had colon resection surgery. My intestine are very sick but they got out a little more then 12 inches my colon had swollen to over 5 inchs in diameter. I am feeling much better now. But this allergy diet is tough! I will get a list of books and foods that have helped me sometime this week and post them. I did post a few foods I eat on the thread about candida and I saw you posted on that one as well.

My recomendation is for you to get with a nutritionist and build a close support group that can help you instead of trying to figure it out on your own. Also maybe it would be a good idea to see an actual allergist instead of a GP.
Hope you feel better.

If I were you I would make a list of things you CAN eat, and make a challenge out of finding ways to fix them that you like. You may have to try a lot of unfamiliar things to expand your diet. Dang, I thought having 17 allergies was bad!

Hi: I'm surprised that you have not been given a list of foods that you can eat. I have been there several times. I started building up my immune system with zinc and other supplements. It has helped me a lot. My Naturopath gave me a list of the foods I can eat on a rotation diet. In other words, all the foods that you can eat are spread out in to 4 pages (days) whatever you eat on Monday you can't eat until Friday. If you eat tomatoes on Tuesday you can't eat them again until Saturday. This way the body has a chance to recuperate before you introduce the same food again. Ask your Dr. about the rotation diet. If he's an MD he/she probably doesn't know about it. Naturopaths are generally very good in this area. I hope you find a good one in your area.
