Hi all - I am new to the food allergy group. I have a couple questions for everyone. First, of those who have had long term problems and diagnosed with allergies after several years, what kind of symptoms did you have? I have had abdominal pain for about 23 years that happens randomly after I eat. Really bad pain, nausea, my bowels stop working etc. Lasts usually all night long and is usually gone the next day, but leaves me feeling very sore and tired. Happens also EVERY time I eat out, no matter what I eat. I have finally tied it to bananas, oranges, kiwi, macadamia nuts and avacado. It happened really bad with 2 bites of kiwi, throat closed up, vomiting all night etc. So I am just wondering what everyone else has experienced and what kind of symptoms you have had. Also, does having had milk allergy as a child make me more suseptible to food allergies? Thanks so much for your help in my quest for freedom from pain.

There is obviously something seriously wrong with your metabolism and may well be linked to your body structure.
Do you get back or neck ache or restriction and possibly head aches? On the alergy side you have to test everything, not just be selective. Kind regareds.

You can expect symptoms like you described. I get symptoms that bother me after food has been in my gut for 24 hours and bothers me until it is out of me. So it can be an arrange of symptoms and even strange ones. I do have some symptoms that are not really diagnosed and keeps me wondering if I have a neurological disorder or no. I only wish I would get quicker responses to food after I eat them. And you have a good bit of nerves wrapped up in your gut. So having problems there can leave you feelin wired and exhausted too.

I had all kinds of abdominal pain, constipation alternating with sometimes-violent diarrhea, constant headaches and runny nose, and brain fog.

The best two books (out of about 25 I have read on allergies)are On the Nature of Food Allergy, Paul Hannaway, MD and Dealing With Food Allergies, Janice Jonega. See if your library has one or both. Definitely write down everything you eat everyday & note when symptoms start so you can see a pattern. When eating out, it may be due to MSG or sulfites - best book to explain this is The Food Allergy Book, William Walsh, MD. Good luck in discovering what you are allergic to. Husband & I had blood tests done at allergist's office; we are on our safe list only this week & then will start food challenges - Dealing With Food Allergies explains exactly how to do this.

Be tested for Latex allergy. I had an anaphalatic shock episode after eatting an avacado. I read where that is common in people with latex allergies. I was tested and came up positive for Latex, avacado, kiwi, chestnuts, anthing tropical that is related to the rubber tree family. This is very very serious. Best of luck and by the way. Do not think latex is just in condoms and gloves. It is all around us.
