Am I Allergic to Peanuts?

The obvious answer is "Well, go to a doctor and get tested!"
But I don't have any health insurance... so that's out of the question. But... I *do* know that the last two times I ate peanuts (once being last night and the other time being about a week and a half ago) I got really itchy and the next day woke up feeling like crap! So... today? I feel itchy all over... just... bad. Plain bad. I've read online to take benadryl for mild symptoms... (My symptoms *luckily* are not that severe) and obviously avoid peanuts. Duh. But... I don't have money to go buy some benadryl... So I was wondering if anybody knows of any alternative remedies to get rid of the itchiness???? I feel like I'ma just rip my skin off if this doesn't go away!!! Eeek!!! lol. Any advice/suggestions/help would be appreciated. :0) My throat hurts too.... It doesn't feel swollen necessarily but it DOES hurt. :( I like peanuts... a LOT! And more importantly... peanut BUTTER! :( *sniff sniff* Posted on 10/26/08, 03:10 pm |

Tina, your answer is in your profile, listen to your instincts, they're smarter than you can ever be! Stop eating peanuts! Allergists don't have all the answers, and I've found that conventional (as opposed to holistic) allergists are narrowminded fools linked to pharmaceutical industry. I'm allergic to wheat, tomato, and dairy, and my favorite food is anything Italian, so I know cravings. Just stay away from peanut butter for awhile, and see if you feel better.

I agree... I actually have the number for this guy that specializes in herbal remedies and stuff... But I'm sure he costs an arm and a leg for any kind of help... lol.
So I won't be calling him! :P But yeah I would have to agree (although I don't know from personal experience...) that most allergists are completely dependent on the pharmaceutical industry... because, as with most doctors, that's how they get ya! That's why they get paid!! lol. Anyways.. thanks so much for your advice! I guess I'm smarter than I realize! :P

Benadryl may not cost as much as you think. The generic tablets (diphenhydramine) cost $4.95 for 100, but you can also buy boxes of 25 for even less.

You need to just stop eating peanuts.
You could develop a life threatening reaction. Unless you stop eating peanuts you may die. If that does not help you decide then there is no point in wasting money on a doctor. The bad part is that peanuts and peanut butter are NOT your only problem. I have Non Tropical Celiac Sprue. I have to read every ingredient of every label very carefully before eating it. while reading all those labels, I have noticed that many products are processed in facilities that also process peanuts. You can get exposed without eating anything that you recognize as a peanut. Many resturants use peanut oil or put peanuts in things. It will be difficult but you will get used to it if you want to live.
