Day 2 / Week 1 of Dr. Oz Sugar Detox

Hi Everyone!
I wanted to be sure to post again today updating everyone on my progress. First, I can't thank all of you enough for your support! You all are so nice on here. I logged on and had hugs and messages from people who understand what I'm going through and supporting me as I do this. THANKS SO MUCH!! You all really motivate me.

I decided to title this post Day 2, but also "Week 1" so I can keep all my updates of week 1 on this one thread (I don't want to clutter the message board with a "Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4.... message and so on...)

I still followed the plan today. I love the Dr. Oz plan because it's a logical plan that really allows me to make major lifestyle changes, without setting me up for failure by having the plan be unsustainable or too drastic. I am really MISSING my sugar tonight. Nightime is my usual time to binge (which is why I'm writing here instead). It's funny how (at least for me so far) I don't really want to binge on anything other than carbs/sugar. I know that might now be the case for some, but the thought of bingeing on steak, etc just doesn't tempt me (at least for now). I did have some refined carbs (white rice) with dinner. I got really down about it (since I said I wasn't going to have any), but I didn't binge (didn't have sugar then or later either) and am trying not to be too hard on myself. That's the one thing I really want to stay strong about while doing this - If I mess up I'm not going to just give up and not try to do this anymore. Wish me luck as I go through the week.

I'm also sending lots of good wishes to all of you. Food addiction is such a horrible thing. I feel for all of us. I know I am far from having all of the answers for this addiction. Take care everyone.

" Day 3 and still doing well so far. I'm a little nervous about tomorrow, though. My hubby and I are going out on a date night and I'll be around all my unhealthy triggers - movie theater popcorn, dinner (where hubby will probably order dessert, etc).

I do feel like I need some ideas for a safe snack at night too. That's when I normally binge and I'm finding I'm hungry from not eating my sugary treats late at night now. I guess I could eat fruits/veggies, but that just doesn't satisfy me. I need something not sweet or full of carbs. Any ideas? "

" just got this from a friend. combine tuna with chives, or green onions, a little mayo, but real mayo. slice some tomatoes up, drizzle with olive oil, little oregano, maybe some basil, then put the tuna on top of a slice of tomato, put some cheese on top, and then broil.

another thing that kills the sweet tooth is protein bars. these things have been referred to as chocolate bars on steroids! make sure you get the kind with 0 carbs. They're very very good. Keep them in store for when you really want something sweet, they are high in calories though, but shouldn't trigger a chemical response as there is no sugar~if you get the right ones!

another option is buy a good vanilla or chocolate protein shake powder. Again look for the kind with 0 carbs. Put some milk in a blender, add a scoop of the powder, add frozen berries and you'll have a delicious shake. By keeping the sugars out it should help keep the "i need more now" response to a minimum.

If anyones interested in the protein powders and bars I suggest going to a reputable health food or supplement store, ask one of the people there. It seems intimidating, they are all usually buff dudes or gals that are lean and toned, but they're usually very supportive, and I find quite often were once in this same trap.

Hang in there everyone!!! "

" Thanks for the ideas yossarian! They are so helpful. I like the tuna idea (especially on the slice of tomato). I'm definitely going to get protein bars w/o carbs. That will be easy late at night and should keep me full. THANKS!

So far I'm still doing well. I find myself wanting to eat more other things(than sugar). It's SO tempting to binge. I'm really missing my baked goods. I'm glad Dr. Oz's program goes in stages so it's not too drastic. "

" Just wanted to update. I'm on Day 5 and still hanging in there. Sweet stuff is really tempting me. I did workout today and that seemed to help me. I'm really starting to feel healthy. One other thing I noticed - my jeans weren't as tight!! Hopefully that will be enough to keep me motivated. Week 1 will be over soon and Thursday Week 2 of Dr. Oz's plan begins for me. Hope everyone else is doing well. "
