Eating disorder treatment/Binge eating

Went to new counselor/dietician who specializes in eating disorders. New assignment---not things I haven't already heard and read--but easier said than done. Eat only in designated places. Don't have the Tv on, be reading or at the computer. Put down the fork/spoon between bites, and really taste your food--slow down. This proved easier said than done for me--but I am giving it a go. Its extremely hard for me to do nothing else while eating. It is hard for me to eat slow--my cereal usually crunchy--got really soggy in the process. I have difficulty sitting and watching TV without "grazing" on something. Started this stuff with lunch yesterday, and am going by it still today---finding out how hard habits are to break. I can see that this would be helpful--its just hard to do.

I can see this working out well especially to stop "snacking" - I have an issue with this... and will snack all day if I can. I don't realize how much I have eaten this way. It never seems like a lot, y'know? Also when I started to eat fast once I had kids it never seemed fufilling because it was like you had to pretty much inhale your food so you could get stuff done - hahaha... I think I will try your new assignment myself.

It is working for me--at least week one. I go back to the dietician/counselor tomorrow--no binges--one week. One way it works is after we turn the tv on in the evening, I don't eat anything else--I finish off supper with a piece of fruit, or low sugar low fat popcycle, and that's the end of my food for the day--But I wont say I am not having some anxiety--fidgeting. I have been working outside in the yard a lot to get me out of the house. Anything working with your hands works too--unless it is taking food to your mouth.
This is a scary, but hopeful thing for me--I haven't felt very hopeful in a bit .

I have tried for years to slow my eating down, it is SOOOO hard...
I get up in the middle of my meal and take a break... that has helped a lot.
