Advice:
Late Night Eating!

I'm really bad about this. I work a 2-10 job and usually take my break anywhere from 7-9pm but when I get off of work at 10:30 and come home, the first thing I do is open up the refridgerator. Dosen't help that my mom is an amazing cook so there is ALWAYS something in there, and if not, I'll go get some ice cream or chow a bag of popcorn while I'm "supposed" to be studying or even watching a movie. The late night binging is what makes me feel most guilty and that guilt has attributed to many purging episodes which thankfully I haven't done in awhile. Any advice?

" I have the same problem. I can keep myself in control during the day but at night I binge. My suggestion would be to go to your room close the door and put on a movie. Drink a tall glass of water to fill up your stomach and watch the movie until you are tired enough to go to sleep. There really is no easy way to avoid food at night but that is what I do..or I go to my bf's place that usually doesn't have food around. (hugs) Good luck! "

" I can relate. I come from the same ethnic orgins that you do and opening the 'frig was an automatic thing we did when we got home. Mom was that a fantastic cook but we had an Italian Restaurant...need I say more?
At any rate, I overeat when I am left alone in the evening and even though I think I'm over my abandonment issues, Food can be excellent company.
The good news: I have a long list of people I can call; I can e-mail people who understand and I can pray.
If you are interested in a few books that WORK, send me a message and I will get the titles to you. Blessings. "

" Cala, maybe try focusing on getting yourself sleepy and passing out to sleep when you get home? or find a new activity to do at night like something crafty or creative that's stimulating. Distractions that entertain you are great tools for avoiding a binge! Ask mom to tuck the tempting food away in dark covered containers in the back of the fridge, out of sight, out of mind and put healthy guilt free snacks in the front that are super convienient to eat.
One last tip is try writing yourself a little note or use an inspirational picture to put up on the snack cabinet or fridge that will remind you to take a moment and think about the consequences of IF you binge. After a binged I wrote down all of my sad thoughts and how I felt then posted it. talk about a stop sign! It definately HELPS... may not cure but it helps.
HUGS!!! stay strong! and stay BUSY! "

" I know how you feel I do the same thing. Its hard not to binge eat at night. I have found that drinking water helps and get some shelled peanuts and eat them. Then you have to work for the food and their good too. Good luck "

" A lot of this is conditioning. It's a habit. I like to eat an apple (or something else whole food, banana, you choose, on the way home in the car. Then walk in the house, have a hot tea (warm drinks are more satiating for me) but you choose here. I also found that if is Make a fruit smoothie and add psyllium husks or chia seeds (or commercially, a fiber supplement like Metamucil) that helps really fill me up.
Then it's not about hunger, it's about emotions. In my case, I want to be distracted from a task I don't really want to do, like studying, homework, housework, taxes. you know!
I feel for you, nights are the WORST! I have even gone so far as to line up chairs to the entrance of my kitchen to remind myself that I CANNOT be hungry and it's off limits LOL "
