In a deal that would create a global food powerhouse with $50 billion in revenue, the American giant Kraft Foods said Monday that it had approached Cadbury with a $16.7 billion merger bid, but that the British company had rejected its proposal.
Shares of Cadbury soared 35 percent at the start of London trading on the news. Cadbury’s shares had lost about 17 percent over the year through the close on Friday. |
