My husband died a year and a half ago from Fournier's gangrene. It's a form of flesh eating disease that affects the perineum. He was not a survivor mainly because he had a serious heart condition on top of the disease and his circulatory system couldn't handle the healing process. My heart goes out to all of you as this is such a difficult thing to deal with. I wish I had a site like this back when I was going through it because, as a family member...it was so lonely and frightening for me and my kids. I have since then researched and educated myself.

I am so sorry for your loss. My husband also had fournier's gangrene. He survived that and had plastic surgery to rebuild his genitals but then got cancer and died from that. The only way he survived the gangrene was through the administration of very powerful drugs. He had many other issues going on - he was in a coma for 2 months, in the icu for 3 months, lost the ability to walk while in the coma, was septic twice, died and was revived 3 times, had kidney failure, had a trach and was on a respirator, and so may other terrible things happened to him. the hardest thing is being helpless to help them while you watch all that is happening to the one you love so much.
