" My mom lost about 50 lbs just from walking, then she started going to the gym and lost another 40.

The nice thing about it is, you can walk an hour a night, lose alot of weight, then start to run a little while during your walk. When you aren't exhausted by the end of it, you need to speed it up a little more. Listen to your body!

Also you could get a pedometer, set a goal, and try to walk more whenever you get a chance plus a walk if you need it to reach your goal. Good luck, walking can be alot of fun! "

" It is a VERY effective weight loss exercise. You also need to eat sensibly, but the walking does wonders for a bod.

Before I stopped working after having my 3rd child, I would wear a pedometer every day. Even though I was a secretary, I logged in 12,000 + steps per day. I did a lot of walking from office to office and building to building. I also walked on my lunch break.

I also used the Walk Away the Pounds dvd's each (well most) mornings and lost the baby weight and then some fairly quickly.

Keep it up and you'll see results. "

" How many calories you burn will depend on how far/fast you walk in 1 hour.

I entered 1 hour into fitday.com
@ 2miles per hour 140 calories
@ 3miles per hour 185 calories
@ 3.5miles per hour 213 calories
@ 4miles per hour 280 calories "

" When walkers try to walk faster, a natural inclination is to lengthen your stride in front, reaching out further with your foward foot. This leads to a clumsy, ungainly gait, striking hard with the feet. Your shins hurt and you really don't get any faster.
The Cure for Overstriding
All of the power of your walk comes from pushing with the back leg and foot.

* Shorter, Quicker Steps: If you are trying to walk fast, concentrate on taking shorter, quicker steps.
* Roll Through, Push Off: Then think of really rolling through your step with your back foot and leg, getting a good push off.

The result will be faster feet and lengthening your stride where it does you some good - in back.

" Perfect! Walking is the #1 way to begin. Walking alone does much, is enough for some people. Congratulations. "
