Has anyone tried Zumba at home? Like the DVDs? I can't really afford classes all the time and would probably be more comfortable as a beginner at home. A lot of other people I know are doing stuff like p90x and Insanity ....I kinda feel like that would be too intense for me to start with. It's a little intimidating! Lol. Just looking for some opinions ..thanks!

" I just started doing the DVDs at home last month, Riva. Going to classes would have been too intimidating for me. "

" Cool, how do you like it? Have you noticed any changes? I just want to have fun with exercise and not have it feel like work :) "

" I have attend the classes before, but have recently tried the DVDs. As fun as the classes were, I enjoy the DVDs better. Just because I am shy person and some of the moves can be quite embarrassing. Especially for someone of my size. Definitely worth giving a try. In the beginning, don't be discouraged if you don't see results on the scale, because you will start to see a big difference in the way your clothes fit :)

Best of luck! "

" Thanks whip, I appreciate your feedback. I agree, I am not a fitness expert and feel like I woukd be embarrassed at the class at first ( besides the fact that it's kind of expensive and I wouldn't have anyone to watch my kids while i go). I am definitely not trying to set any extreme goals...I don't want any more disappointments for 'failing'. I just really want a fun experience :) "

" I really enjoy the DVDs. Riva, like you and Whip I prefer to do this at home. Yes, I have started noticing results. I'm back into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to get in to in over a year. More importantly though is my health. I recently went for tests and everything is back within normal range. As Whip said, don't get discouraged and keep at it. As Tanya, one of the instructors on the CD says ... and I'm paraphrasing ... stick with it and you'll get it ... we're all built differently and do things differently ... besides perfection is boring. Just have fun with it. The one thing I would suggest though regarding footwear is that you have a shoe with low tread such as a dance aerobic shoe or cross trainer with low tread as there is a lot of lateral movement. You'll move easier and with less chance of injury with a low tread shoe. I hope you enjoy it. "

" You can rent the DVDs from the library for free. Some gyms have certain times(because they want you to get a membership) that you can go to the classes or gym a a trial. After the trial I tell them i'll have to think about it because of the economy isn't great. Ask friends if they have any you can use. Craigslist people give them away. Join Freecycle.org people give away their exercise equipment or you can ask. "

" And thank you too Lynne! I was also wondering, do you add anything else into your routine? Like strength training? Im thinking of trying a few things, just to tone up a little. "

" I have a recumbent bike that I use as well. Zumba one day, bike the next. Weekends I sometimes do both. The DVD set also has a CD called 'Ripped', which is toning training. It is split into two parts ... toning and Sentao. My leg isn't strong enough for Sentao yet, but it is my goal to get through it by the end of the year. "
