Abs are the hardest muscle to build. I've increased strength and definition in most parts of my body except for the abdomen, but I've been doing crunches like crazy at the gym. A LITTLE HELP PLEASE! THANKS!

" You are so right.. ABS are crazy hard.. but do able.. I have never had them in my life until I started working out at a local crossfit gym. I dont know if you are familiar, if not check out the website (crossfit.com). these gyms are found nation wide so I hope you have one near you. Muscle confusion is great for the body and results. I also did the zone meal plan. Its a way of life.. google zone recipes for a ton of recipes and check out drsears.com for the jist of the eating plan. I love the concept and between crossfit and the zone I lost 20lbs 6% body fat and 3 clothing sizes!!! With wash board abs included... Abs are about 90% what you eat and 10% working out. if you are working them out daily switch up ab work outs dont do the same thing over and over again. You will see quick results! and Keep me posted.. I actually have just lost another 2inches off my waist... gotta love it!!! So here is what I do. I do measurements cause weight is just a number. then at the end of every week i check myself. Remember no diets.. Zone is a way of life.. its healthy and a great concept! not to mention crossfit promotes it.. please check out that website i think you will find it to be very helpful.. and please keep me posted!!!! " I have been doing various ab workouts - Billy Blanks Bootcamp for Abs, Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds for Abs, Hip-Hop Abs, Sparkpeople Couch Nicole Abs Workout are some of them - and have noticed HUGE improvement. I think variety is the key. Just doing crunches is not enough! "

" The wisdom from my trainer: "Abs are made in the kitchen."

You may already have incredible abs, but just can't see them because of where you carry your body fat. Some body builders choose not to worry too much about the abs when they are in a building phase. Train them but eat enough to build the muscle. When they are getting ready for a show they'll diet down to extreme lows of body fat, like 4% or thereabouts to show the definition of the entire body, including abs. The trade off is that while dieting down some muscle loss is inevitable.

I think less extreme is to maintain around 8% - 10% bodyfat, the level at which you'll see abs, and still have a healthy amount of fat.

What is your diet like? "
