I have lost a lot of weight in the last four months and now I want to start running to tone up my body - the trouble is I have an awkward running technique that usually ends up with me injured! Does anyone have advice on the correct running technique?

" Get good shoes, get good shoes, and get good shoes. I first started running in a beat-up pair of New Balance crosstrainers, and once I bought a pair of Mizuno WaveRiders, the difference was incredible...it was like running on warm butter.

If you plan on making running your primary fitness regimen you'd do well to consult with a professional running coach to get some pointers on your technique. Bad running form WILL catch up to you after a while, and once you get a knee injury, you are SCREWED. "

" I don't seem to bend my knees properly and I usually get sore knees afterwards. It's kind of hard to explain, but I definitely don't run properly! "

" Congrats on the loss! I would recommend that you see a physical therapist who specializes in sports medicine. He or she can give you running advice, assess your technique, and show you how to avoid injuries. "

" Sorry, accidentally hit return. Anyway, get a good pair of shoes, go to a real running store, not a dept. store. Most running stores will check your gait and suggest a good shoe. Also it might not hurt to wear a brace on your knee to keep you from turning it in. When I started running I needed one. I don't need one anymore, and I run marathons now. I think once you start running, your leg muscles get stronger and that helps take care of the problem. Welcome to the world of running! "

" Okay, so the first half disappeared. Most women run a bit Knock Kneed. This is because our hips are wider than men's. You could be hurting something called an "it" band. Okay, now the top half will make sense. lol. Oh, and the knee brace I am talking about can be found at any drug store, just a soft brace should do it. "
