" I just looked it up online... I think I would be gnawing on doorknobs by the second day...

What concerns me about the diet is the claim that you will lose 10 pounds in three days. That much weight down in that short a time means you are probably wasting muscle.

Muscle is what burns fat. Losing muscle compromises your ability to metabolize fat. Slow steady dropping is safer. 1 - 2 pounds a week is the safe rate.

It also seems to be very low on protein; I wouldn't do it. "

" I am no sure how one could call this diet healthy.
Crackers, weiners, and ice cream? That's not a healthy diet!
I'll stick with a good honest diet and exercise with weights plus daily cardio.
You want to lose your weight in a healthy fashion, not with something like below.
There is no way I would force myself to eat like the plan below for 40 days, just to hopefully lose 30.

The Birmingham Diet
FIRST DAY
Breakfast:
Black coffee or tea
½ grapefruit
1 slice toast
2 tbs. peanut butter

Lunch:
½ cup of tuna (no mayo)
1 slice toast
Coffee or tea

Dinner:
2 slices of any meat
1 cup of string beans
1 cup of beets
1 apple
1 cup of vanilla ice cream

SECOND DAY
Breakfast:
1 egg
½ banana
1 slice of toast
Black coffee or tea

Lunch:
1 cup cottage cheese
5 saltines

Dinner:
2 hotdogs
1 cup broccoli
½ cup of carrots
½ banana (the other half from breakfast)
½ cup vanilla ice cream

THIRD DAY
Breakfast:
5 saltines
1 slice cheddar cheese
1 apple
Black Coffee or tea

Lunch:
1 hard boiled egg
1 slice toast

Dinner:
1 cup of tuna
1 cup beets
1 cup cauliflower
½ cantaloupe
½ cup vanilla ice cream

Most people lose about three pounds in three days. After 3 days of dieting you can eat normal food but do not overdo it. After 4 days of normal eating, you can start back on your three day diet. You can lose up to 30 pounds in 40 days if you stick with it. "

" You are right, both of you! I was soooo hungry by the second day that I felt sick!! I am now watching my calories, eating more protien, very little carbs, but the right ones, and bought an awesome treadmill....thanks for your advice! :)

" lol.. I almost got sick reading The Birmingham Diet food plan. I have never heard of that and I too would be "gnawing on doorknobs" by day 2 as well:)) Glad to hear you are not following through with it! Good luck! "

" you'll get better results with a long-term diet...my mom and sister have had a lot of success with the south beach diet. i went vegetarian and it's been great.

the best thing is to find what works for you. i found a book on eating right for your blood type, it's great because it focuses on how different people's bodies process the same food in different ways. looking into something like that might help. good luck!!! "
