I've never posted on this particular board before, but I have been around DS for about a month now.

I need help paying my electric bill and phone bill. I simply can't afford it this month. Does anyone know of any charities or anything that can help with this particular problem? I've called all the numbers that I can find, and they're impossible to get through, or they are out of funding.

I live in Orlando, FL.

Please, and thank you.

" Hi SMunro and welcome to the board. :D

If you have a Salvation Army, a United Way number like 211 or St. Vincent Depaul's you could see if they could help you w/ your phone bill and utilities. You could also try a Google search to see if your state offers a Home Energy Assistance program like HEAP.

You could also try Googling or calling any local churches in your area to see if they offer any assistance. Some churches out here offer one-time emergency assistance to help families needing financial assistance to maintain basic necessities.

If none of these programs are available in your area, you could call both companies and see if they would be willing to arrange a payment plan to help you pay both bills.

Good Luck :D "

" The elec. co. here has a special fund set aside to help people in this situation. Each month when people pay their bill they can have it "rounded up" to the nearest dollar amount. That extra money goes into this "kitty" and when people are struggling they can get assistance. Have you checked with your electric company? Maybe they have some sort of program like the one I mentioned. Also, I know that Dept. of Social Services has funds to help out with elec. but it is first come, first serve. Also, local churches, Salvation Army, Goodwill, United Way...... "

" Thank you for the advice.

I've called all the charities/assistance programs I can. No one has any funds until next week. And told me to try again. I've been on the HOLD with the local LIHEAP since 8 am. It's now 12:16. That's FOUR HOURS that I've been just sitting on hold. I sat on hold for 2.5 hours yesterday morning, before getting disconnected. This is just really frustrating. Really, really frustrating. "
