Hi All
Recently Dr. Oz has recommended supplements of Ribos 500 Mg, 3x daily to help with energy levels and also can help with the pain of FMS. Has anyone tried Ribos that has Fibro or CFS and if so has it been helpful in reducing pain, sorness, overall fatigue. Also, has anyone experienced any side affects taking Ribos and if so at what dosage. Thanks Donna/NJ Posted on 09/18/09, 02:09 pm |

Thanks for replying on the Ribos. I did not get many replys so I appreciate any input on this supplement idea for FMS, CFS.
I tried it for about a week and noticed more headaches so I looked up the possible side affects and low and behold headaches were there. Since I have not taken it the headaches have diminished except for the headaches I get when I miss a meal or sinus headaches which I usually can tell the difference. I guess I may have to cross that off my list of possible energy enhancers. I was so hoping that would help with my energy levels and some soreness but apparently that is not the answer yet and more research is still needed. Good luck to you with your illness and Fibro/CFS. Thanks again for replying Donna/NJ

I take this when I'm super fatigued or traveling long distances. I don't get a headache but do get a short energy boost. Have you tried different sources and types? I take 5 grams of the powder.

Is Ribos an over the counter supplement? Is it a vitamin?

Yes, D-Ribos is an over the counter supplement found mainly in health food stores, like GNC etc.
It is not a vitamin but a supplement that is used to boost our own Ribos which is produced by our bodies. Try googling it and also look at the studies to date.

I have tried the poweder form of D-Ribose but only took it about a week when I started noticing increased headaches so I went off it and my headaches are minimal. I already probably have sinus headaches and it seems to make my headaches worse. I also read if you are diabetic or have low blood sugar like I do it could make it worse. I get headaches when I don't eat every 3-4 hours even before I took the D-Ribose.

I just picked up some powder at GNC and since they had a bogo 50% off, I got some whey protein (protein helps with energy right?). I'm hoping that this will help with the fatigue and brain FOG!

NJGirl~I've had vision issues in the past too. I have tried MANY times to be fitted for contacts. The change in vision with the contacts plays games with my brain and I always have to go back to glasses (I do have progressives though). The longer that I have FM the more I hate it. It effects so many aspects of our lives! If I can just get some energy and get some things done, may be other things will fall into place.

KPTOO,
I know what u mean about energy level being low. I am 48 and of course with age and menopause comes loss of energy among other age related changes. My vision is okay but as you may experience also, so sensitive to things other people are not, such as noise, smells, sounds and medications. Over all I am not doing bad but I could use a pick me up just to get out of bed in the morning. I try to eat well and get enough sleep but no sleep is ever enough. I feel a little better after drinking coffee but I have acid reflux so I really shouldn't rely on coffee or caffeine to pick me up. Wish I had the energy I should for my age. My mom told me today I have a poker face all the time and I had to make her realize I am always so tired it actually is hard to smile sometimes, that is how tired I sometimes feel. Good luck to you with your Fibro/chronic fatigue
