Gas or Electric.....I have a smooth top electric stove that I hate. I'm thinking of purchasing a gas stove. I haven't had one since way back and if I remember correctly cooking on it was way better than electric.
Any opinions? Posted on 10/24/09, 11:10 am |

we have Electric as well...I prefer gas...more even cooking...when ya turn it down it is Immediately Down...when ya Turn it off...there is no residual heat...it is just off...Nice..
but my Husband hates gas Stoves...and since he has named himself "Big BOSS Daddy" I guess I will learn to live with Electric...at least i FINALLY got my CLEAN wood Floors !! YeaY !! No More nasty carpet !! YeaY !!

I love gas over electric ! Plus, when I loose power it can heat my place until it's restored.
I also agree with DakotaRose. No carpets more floor ! I hate wall to wall ! Nasty is right !

Yea! I think we will be buying a gas stove in the near future, thanks for the input. I totally agree with the carpet thing. We put wood flooring in the two spare bedrooms last year and are planning on doing the living room soon. The padding under the carpet is turning to dust. When I empty the vaccum it is full of powder pulled up from under the carpet. I have had to steam alot because we have indoor cats and dogs.. Well make that one cat and one dog. We had to put down one cat last year and our beloved Nikta last month.

I have always like gas better for cooking although it has been years since I had one that was gas.
I just moved to a condo and it has a smooth top electric and I hate it! It seems to take longer for the burner to get hot and it takes longer for it to cool down. The top is inset about a half inch from the outside rim of the stove top and if I have a large pan like for cooking pancakes, the pan touches the edge and leaves burn marks. Also, it seems to easy to leave a hot pad or something on top of the stove and not be aware of where the burner is. I'm a little afraid of starting a fire and have to be super careful. It also scratches if you are using the pan to saute. Stoves are supposed to have a cast iron burner that is tough so you can shake a pan back and forth. I don't know who thought this was a good idea

Ok I'm in a fog when I first saw Gas or Electric I choose Gas with a spark I want to go out with a bang LOL
I've never had gas but I like the electiric with the flat tops. You don't have the mess with things leaking down into the burners.

I actually burned up some MRI pics. My husband left the stove (flat top) and it was the only flat spot to drop the x-rays. So............... they melted! Another time I melted a plastic lid. You really have to be aware with the smooth top and I give up! : ) Thanks for all the feed back!
