" Various types of chest pain can be a symptom of myofascial pain where the muscles get knots in them that refer pain elsewhere. The knots are know as trigger points and have to be broken up for the pain to subside.

One way it manifested in my life is that the active trigger points affected my breathing to the point it was like I was running in below freezing temperatures and couldn't get my breathe. I was diagnosed with asthma, put on more and more meds all to no avail. When my doctor finally realized there was nothing wrong with my lungs and that it was related to the fibro, I started researching what to do and learned about myofascial pain and trigger point massage. After locating the offending trigger points and massaging them for a few minutes, I was able to breathe normally again.

I've also had a lot of pain in my ribs but so long as I faithfully massage the offending trigger points, my pain is under control.

Here's an article with diagrams dealing with arm and chest pain. You'll have to scroll down about 3/4's of the way to get to the part about chest pain.

" I have discovered that with FM you can have pain anywhere and yes, myofascial pain is something I have spoken about on here on more than one occassion. Its pretty important to know about it as it can make our lives a living hell when it is too tight. I had chest pain for a quick second the other day, and it went away, but the pain was strong enough to have me breathing hard for a few minutes and then poof it was gone.
You can literally have pain ANYWHERE at any TIME. This is odd, I know but, I even had pain in the area of my crotch....the bottom part of my pelvic bones where I sit but closer to the crotch area. In CHURCH no less!!!!!!!!!
I have had that on more than one occassion. I am extremely in tuned with what my body is doing, and I realize after the fact, that its yet another wierd, invasive, pesky FM symptom. (btw its not related to sexual activity, I am celibate) Its just a wierd thing that happens. A day in the life of an FM chick. "

" Its called costochondritis. Is from fibro where you chestwall gets inflamed. Feel beside your breastbone when you are having a flare and you realize how tender it is there. Also your ribs on the side will probably feel very tender,

Sometimes heat or ice will help, sometimes it will last a couple hours and sometimes all day or how long fibro feels like hanging around,. Cant predict it.

For no reason it will come up out of the blue. I thought it was my heart but it wasnt,. I did have a cath lab and heart is good. Went to ER a few times thinking it was my heart before having cathlab. One ER dr informed me it was costochondritis.

Once my costo got so bad it made me short of breath, thats when I had the cath lab. It just fibro.

Sequlley has a good link for trigger point therapy, Try it. "

" Aleve helps me allot in this regard. I refused to believe that my symptoms were fibromyalgia because I had these episodes of feeling like I was having a heat attack. After reading this, I changed my mind.

Go here, then click on 'chest symptoms'

" I get a chronic pleurisy. It is an inflamation of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs. I don't know if it has anything directly linked to fibromyalgia or not. It can be extreemly uncomfortable though. Sometimes I hug a water bottle for comfort. It would be best to get it checked out so the doctor can rule out more serious problems. "
