Dear DreamWishes. I have a question what is the emg test. I am assuming it is a muscle test....is your doctor looking for post-polio syndrome....I have an intense sore throat during flare-ups....Also, do you have trouble swallowing food...often having to throw up your food? I am looking for similarities to what I experience. Bless you.

Electro-something lol and it is a nerve test where they stick you with tiny needles to see your nerve responses.I don't always have a sore throat with flare ups.I did have a sore throat for a while that finally let up last week.But I looked in the back of my throat finally and saw white spots and took a Q-tip and removed them.Now it doesn't hurt it just goes numb!!!!Not so much trouble swallowing BUT lately it doesn't want to digest at a normal rate and it gets stuck in my chest making it hard to breathe.And yes last night after I unexpectedly regurgitated on the floor,I had to throw up to get the rest out.I know that's not right but I felt a lot better being able to breathe without that crap stuck in my esophagus.

An EMG is a nerve conduction test, it can reveal if the nerve and muscles are working correctly. As far a a sore and numb throat, I have them frequently, no matter how much i drink; add to this paralyzed vocal cords. I am seeing a neuro doc next week to see why my muscles are so weak. The symptoms you describe sound like Sjogren's Syndrome, if the test come back neg, you may have a sero neg sjogren's Syndrome, which is what I have. You may want to discuss with the your doc.

im thinking the same as two dry eyes..the sjogs thing..i have this with my throat,,and i have sjogs...Autoimmune can be present with FM,its not that uncommon actually?...speak to your rhumey as they deal with this stuff?..hows your eyes?..

Sjogrens?I'm gonna have to re research that.I've been tested for it once,came back negative of course.I once told the doctors it felt like my esophagus and lungs were just plain dry was the best I could describe what I was feeling at the time.My eyes are always feeling dry but the eye doctor said they weren't sjogrens dry.Thanks for the idea.

Ohhh...that WOULD Freak me...I Hope and Pray you get Real Answers at your Appointment !! christ...one would think that could be Dangerous as hell !!

Wow I was tired when I wrote on this subject last night.Thank you twodryeyes for explaining the EMG a lot better than I did.So this is happening to others,this is really scary.What do the doctors propose you do for a numb throat?It's that numb tingly feeling.I have been researching sjogrens and most of the sites only want to talk about dry eyes and mouth.Does anyone have a good link that talks about ALL the possible symptoms?

I just spoke to my mom and since were supposed to get ice rain I have to cancel my appointment because it's out of town:( I told my regular doctor about my numb throat and she sent me for an upper GI.I'm not sure there's anything else she can do since neurologist are the ones who specialize in nerves.I just don't understand why it seems like every month I get a new symptom.Doesn't God want me to get better so I can be a good mother?

Wow, my throat is sore, but I think I would totally freak if it went numb. I hope they can find out what's wrong and fix it.

Hi! I am new to the group. I have not been diagnosed with Fibro yet, but they said it is a possibility. Lately I have had a lot of pain my neck, back, chest area. I have My throat has been really sore, and when I eat really solid foods, it hurts more. I have seen an Ear's, nose and throat doctor, and had an Endoscopy in the last week. I have a very small Hiatial Hernia, very mild inflammation of the stomach, and a very slight deviated septum. No problems with the throat, nor with the esophagus. I am just dumb founded. What could be wrong with my throat?!?! I came to find out if anyone else who has been diagnosed with fibro has problems with these. I see my primary physician tomorrow about TMJ issues I have had. I don't know if that could be the cause, but it's really scary and hurts a lot!
