Sun sensitivity

Hey all....

Anyone know if sun sensitivity is part of fibromyalgia? What about any supplements that can cause it? I have been googling stuff, but no results so far.

I just came down to Florida for two weeks with my folks, and I'm finding my skin really hurts despite no visual evidence of burning.

Any help would be appreciated!

Sue

" I don't know if it's part of FM.. but I know for a fact it's associated with lupus. "

" alot of medications & supplements can cause sun sensitivities...

also, Lotions & Perfumes me react on ur skin under the sun..so I would assume the same could be said for scented soaps...Keep Covered !! and talk to your Dr. !! "

" Nothing to add really - not part of fibro but as others have suggested, you might want to get tested for lupus, and to look at any meds or supplements you're taking, as this can be a side effect. "

" I have extreme sun sensitivity. I used to be able to tan nicely as a teen (small part Hawaiian) but not since getting Fibro. Now, I just get blotchy, itchy and burned. I have other major sensitivities so this doesn't surprise me.

P.S. I tested negative for Lupus. "

" Hi Sue,

I have been tested for Lupus and don't have it.

But, since getting fibro, when I go outside and the sun hits my skin, it feels like it's burning through it. It's very painful.

I'm not on any meds. regular either so I think it's the fibro. "

" I wasn't able to go in the sun for 10 yrs because of the antidepressant I was on. It has a warning on most of these meds. Could that be the problem? "

" I thought I had Lupus and went to the Rheumy to get tested back in September. I live in Arizona and when I am in the sun even for a few minutes, I get covered in these red bumps all over my body. I have also had a huge rash on my neck since August. The doctor told me right away before the Lupus test that I had Fibromyalgia, but did the Lupus test anyway. The Lupus test came back negative and he told me the sun sensitivity and rash was from the Fibromyalgia. So yes I guess it is possible, but rare. Best of luck to you. "

" Okay, it appears I'm cockeyed. I love the sun and the sun loves me. I get a tan every summer with no problems past the initial exposure in which I turn red for a few days. It's the cold that drives my body nuts. I'm a warm weather person so I bask in the sun and always hate to leave the beach. I burn because I was so sick for three years and didn't get out in it. Now that I'm doing a lot better, I look forward to the warmer months and climates. Maybe it's my Native American blood. Who know? Either way, the sun has been healing for me. "
