Dr. Tried to Kill Me

I was in a lot of pain and told the doctor I was ready for a pain med.
She gave me the Fentanyl Patch. The first 3 sentences in the warning on the first page of the papers they give you with the med. reads: This medication is a strong narcotic pain reliever. It should only be used for patients who have been using moderate-to-large amounts of a powerful narcotic medication (e.g. morphine) regularly. Use of this medication by someone who is not regularly taking a narcotic pain relievers can cause serious (possibly fatal) breathing problems. I am very sensitive to meds. and haven't been able to take any pain meds. without getting sick. She knows this. I want to kill her. Kaiser protects their doctors and won't do a damn thing about it. I told the neurologist, but he could give a damn too. I emailed her on Friday, she read the email (I can tell because it gets a lighter color when read). Now she is gone for a couple of days. I am in the anger stage of my illness and if I was depressed, it would be very easy for me to put 1 or 2 of these patches on and kill myself. I wonder if she thought about that when she was giving it out to me. I think I'll email her and ask - even though it says not to email when they are away - screw her!!! Posted on 12/14/09, 07:15 pm |

Those patches are good if you can handle them. I was on Lortabs and the doctor I had at the time sent me to Pain Management(because he didn't feel comfortable prescribing the Lortabs) with a complete diagnosis of "chronic pain". I was on them several months before my body rejected them. I went from there to 30MG Morphine then to 60MG. I was deeply depressed among other things. During this time, my doc diagnosed me with COPD.
I learned a lot once I was off these meds and began to do research. I don't take my doctor's word for anything, I do my homework first. Doctors try to keep the patient in mind and work at keeping them pain free but sometimes, the eagerness in which they prescribe can be extremely detrimental to the patient. Always be your own advocate and please pay attention. If your insurance will pay for it, get your doc to send you to PT for six weeks. I just finished up mine and during that time, my therapist was putting cortisone patches on my SI joint and those helped immensely. They're activated by a battery and dispense the correct amount of medicine in a specific spot. I hope you get this straightened out with your doc and can find something you can tolerate. D

I'm just going by what their OWN PAPERS say and how stupid this doctor is anyway.
Once she had me tested for strep throat - when I was already on antibiotics for something else of course it came back negative - the idiot.

I've decided to take of of myself. I pay Kiaser a ton of money every month and for now, I'm just going to use them for the tranxene to relax my muscles at night so I can sleep.
I noticed today that I was feeling pretty good pain wise. Then I ate a casserole with pasta, cheese, tomatoes and hamburger. After I ate my whole body was in pain. So, I'm going to start listing the things that I eat that make me hurt and just stop eating them. I hate taking meds and they hate me so I just can't go there except for just a few. I tried vicodin the other day again - just to see and 3 hours later was throwing up and super nauseous.

How frustrating and unprofessional. She should have advised you of all the side effects and how to properly take such a strong medication. I would be furious too.
Maybe talk to your local pharmacist and see what kind of advice they will give about the patch and the dosage???

Very unprofessional! What is up with docs these days? I was given some pain patch for my buring back. The waring label said.. may cause heart attack.. needless to say, the box went into the garbage. Sorry you had to go through that. I'd be upset myself. Hope you find a safe way to manage your pain.

Whoa! I would be more than disgusted with that Dr. My Kaiser experience - 'fired' my first doctor on general dislike. Got another and he is great. However, because of experience in another department (not a doctor error) I filed a grievance and have received three phone calls to clarify the problem. Have not received the formal reply as yet. File a grievance! Who knows if it will do any good, but you can bet the doctor will hear of it.

I filed a grievance against the nurse practitioner in the doctor's complex. Now, my file plainly states that I refuse to see P** S******. it's your right to do this when necessary.
