cause of fibro #2
View More Posts Ignore
When I posted "Men cause fibro" I was simultaneously venting and trying to bring a stress-relieving laugh to readers, and if you substitute "woman or wife" in every case where "man or husband" was used, the logic that stressful situations cause fibro is identically justified.
For any men who took offense, sorry. There are women out there who can cause enough stress to give a stone statue fibro, if such a thing could be....

The original post was closed by me as I felt it did berate and insult men and that's not what we are here for. Nobody had asked me to close it. I agree with susanmp and want to add that we need to move on from this subject and find another way to add humour to our lives. Thanks for your apology fibrlC2 and for your understanding.

" I once posted something that I thought was humorous but offended someone else. I had to back peddle out of that one real fast! I didn't intend to offend or hurt anyone, but I had not chose my words correctly. This is a pretty forgiving group though, thank God! I missed out on the original post, sorry!
Hugs,
Sam "

" No worries! I think most of knew that you were speaking of a spouse and that gender was incidental. Abusive, toxic people come in all genders and ages.

Actually, if your statement was said by an actor in a sitcom, it would have gotten laughs. Gender humor has been around for generations. I took your previous post as just that.....a humorous way to spin a bad situation into a story of survival.

Big hugs! "

" Wow. I believe you were venting and trying to bring a laugh and not intending to hurt. However, seeing as someone WAS already offended with this line of topic, any further 'humorous' replies should also be closed down.
They are NOT funny.
This is NOT a 'women only' site. And even if it were, as a woman, I would find comments like these unacceptable. I was saddened, and very surprised, by the comments on the thread the other day. They were insensitive to male fibro sufferers who come on here for advice and support, just like the rest of us.

I'm sorry that some women have had such bad experiences. But let's get real, it's unfair to paint all men with the same brush and that's what these comments are doing.

It's all good and well to say they can substitute 'female/wife' for 'men' but if we are honest and a man came on here and set up a post titled 'women cause fibro'...we'd go through the bloody roof!
And rightfully so.

Is it really so hard to believe that some men/women WOULDN'T find such comments funny, even if labells were switched?

Other people do NOT cause our fibro anyways.
Our reaction to the stresses of life may intensify fibro symptoms but they are not the cause of it.
And our reaction to stress is something we CAN recognise and learn to CONTROL.
We all have the ability to control how we respond to bad situations (caused by men and women).
Painting one section of society with the same brush smacks of narrow-mindedness and in the end hurts all of us.

Women who are in such bad circumstances should find themselves a way out. Get up your confidence and leave the bastard or make him treat you right. Do not be a victim. Stand up for yourself.

Knowing that someone was upset by the ' jokes' in the previous thread, it is simply unacceptable to try to pick up the thread again in a humorous vein.

Instead why don't we try something more inclusive? Let's see what we can learn from the men on this site.
Male fibro sufferers are under represented, let's encourage them to speak out and take part. "

" I think some people just take everything too seriously. My hubbby has fibro and loves to get a laugh about almost anything. My aunt sent me an email joke once.....
A lady is driving down a long stretch of road in the desert when she see an old Indian woman. ss she stops and picks the woman up and asks ewhere she is going. As she is taking the lady to her stop she tries unsucessfully to make small talk. Then the Indain lady spots a bottle of wine in the seat next to her. She asks what it is. The lady replies "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband" The Indian lady replies "Nice trade"

My hubby thought that was hilarious. So did I. However, I guess some would take offence at that joke too. Some people have very little sense of humor

" It is not funny when someone gets hurt. And in the initial post someone was hurt. That's the point.

Real humour doesn't rely on cheap shots about someone's sex, race, sexuality or ethnicity.

For the record, I don't find jokes about Indians, or any other specific group of people, funny. "

" OK people - LIGHTEN UP!!!! I want someone to give me an example of a joke that DOESN'T make fun of anyone - 'cause I'm having trouble thinking of one.

I didn't see the first post, but it sounds like maybe somebody was taking the whole thing way to seriously when your intent was just to vent and try to make light of your situation.

I will never condone "hate speech" or anything that truly demeans any group of people as a class, but to follow the thought to its illogical conclusion, are we going to ban "blonde jokes"? If so, I need to know right away, because the thought police are probably on their way to my house and I need to go home and load the guns.

Seriously, lighten up! "
