Help! thigh flare out of nowhere!

I seem to be flaring, damn it. been well for so long but then it seems worse when it does hit. Not sure what is going on but my thighs have been hit first and then my old back pain woke me up this morning. and now the neck and shoulder crap is starting up....but my thighs are the worst bit at the moment.

does anyone else get back of the thigh pain? i seem to get this with every flare now and it's getting worse. its the BACK OF MY THIGHS. (the front is fine!) they are so so tender to touch and when I run my hand down the back of my leg i can feel tons of lumpy/bumpy hard (knots?) in the muscle.
i haven't done anything out of the ordinary (no exercise that would affect my hamstrings)
and the bumps are so painful, hubby massaged them for me and at first i went through the roof they were so tender but then it seemed to help. until 5 minutes after the massage ended...then it all came right back.

if i bend (even at the waist and not my legs), it hurts the back of my thighs, if i go down stairs it hurts as well and the pain when i first sit down on the toilet where the seat touches my thighs is unreal. It's actually less painful to squat (sorry tmi!!).
it's really weird, and what are the lumps? i assume muscle knots?
what helps? I've tried heat but hasn't done much...normally i wait it out for about 3-4 days but it just seems so bad this time around.

and ideas?

" First thing I would Do is Apply some Moist heat...for about 15 minutes, IF you can Tolerate Ibuprophen I would take a couple of those {Regular Strength}....

If you have ANY Swelling or Nerve pain going on, I would THEN Apply a Cool Cloth over the area...to calm both the Inflammation & the Nerves..

and Kinda go back & Forth a few times thru the day..

If this is Somthing New for you I would call and get an Appointment..get a Blood work up to be sure ya don't have an Infection somewhere..

perhaps some PT would benefit you..

Remember, One Aspect of what we go thru is Our Muscles become Overly Tight..Moist Heat will help calm that down..the Cool will calm down the rest of it...

if you do not have a moist heat heating pad, then lay in a bit of Warm {Not Hot} water..a nice warm Cloth up around your Shoulders should also benefit you..

I hope this Helps a bit !!

and Yes, I get THIGH pain all the time...this is what I do to Treat it. "

" My thighs are the first thing to hurt when I'm having a flare - there and in my upper arms - it's like the "biggest" muscles hurt first and worst.

I don't know about the knots though, and I agree with Dakota that if this is new for you, you should get it checked out.

Other than that, stretching (gently) can help, heat helps some of us, and when all else fails I have a drawer full of lidocaine patches that are just awesome for temporary pain in a localized spot. "

" It sounds like your problem is myofascial pain caused by knots in your muscles [known as trigger points] that refer pain elsewhere.

You need to locate the offending trigger points and massage them in order for the pain to subside. Here's an article with links to a few diagrams that might help: http://round-earth.com/Myofascial.... Also check out triggerpointbook.com as it's the most helpful resource I've come across in treating my myofascial pain. If you can afford to buy that book, it will save you days and weeks of sufferings--it's made my life bearable.

Pain in my thighes was where all this started in my life back when I was a freshman in high school. I can't believe no one had any idea that the whole problem was merely myofascial pain which is relatively easy to control with a bit of effort. "

" I use a thing called a thera cane to work those knotty area out, it is painful but does work and please check out the link that segulley suggests. I bought my thera cane at the relax the back store, I searched online for the best price on the cane, printed that out and the relax the back store agreed to match the lower price that I had from an online store. " I get that too.Everyone has already given good advice.Another thing that might help is take a warm bath in Epsom Salt. The Magnesium in the salt makes you relaxed and can make you tired so i would wait til you have a chance to nap or try before bedtime.I hope you find relief soon!(((HUGS))) "

" I get pain in my right thigh mostly, the pain travels down from my hip into the front of my thigh!! I'm in agony at the moment and the strong Ibuprophen and it doesn't touch the pain at all, either does heat packs. "

" I get a lot of pain in the back of my thighs. I have found the best thing for it is a pain blocking rub that the physical therapist gave me. It smells and works a lot like Ben Gay. Maybe you could try some Ben Gay? I know a lot of times it has helped me.
