Cramps from Hell

This all started about 2 months ago. This happens a couple times a month, but it is the weirdest and painful thing.

I get this full torso, from my breast to mid pelvic area.

It starts out as a mild bear hug, then turns into a paralyzing-I can't move cramp!

I have tried: relaxing, slow breathing, walking it off, and stretching movements. None of these help very much. Yesterday day was the worst! I ended up almost colapesing in the hallway, I couldn't walk any futher.

I was having a really hard time breathing. This happened twice yesterday, now it is 3 a.m. and I feel like I have a low to mild body cramp but I am ok right now.

I am sorry, this is really hard to discribe. Have any of you ever had this? It is scary being "paralyzed", can't breath feeling.

Any comments are welcome. Thanks so much.

" Have not had that...I have alot of Digestive Issues..

Get in ro see a Dr. !!

Why Wait ?

go to the ER..

I Understand, sometimes we have such Odd Symptoms, and we don't want to Run to the Dr. for everyone of them...

but if our Odd Symptoms last more then a day or 2...then Go to the Dr. !

Have them do a CT Scan..with Contrast...so they can see your full digestive tract, and all ur blood vessels..

I would not wait, not one more day.

will be waiting to hear an update !! "

" SAJ, this sounds pretty serious. I've not experienced full body cramps, just the ones in the legs and back and sometime limbs, but nothing that has paralyzed me. Time to go see a doc and get checked out. ER if it happens again today. "

" I use to get cramps like that every month. But I have stage iv endo and my internal organs were adhesed together. I would have it when I ovulated and again 2 days before my cycle, and thru my cycle. I would see a gyn if it continues. "

" I get those. They send me into full body contortions in order to find some relief. I also get cramps in my legs, feet, hands, arms and back. But these chest muscle cramps are the worst.

I have found some relief in tonic water. It won't prevent them but it certainly does seem to stop them.

I was driving home yesterday...an hour and a half drive....when I started getting those cramps. Every one that saw me must have thought I was nuts. Trying every position possible to get them to ease up.

Good luck and I hope you find some relief with the tonic water too. Gentle hugs...

" i take an anti-spasmotic drug when my cramps are too painful. like most every day. it's side effect is that it leaves me very dry, but it does take away the cramps. my gastro dr. prescribes it for me:hyomax-sr maybe this is something your dr. can look into. hope it helps. "

" i have cramps like that.
mostly i my legs arms back or sometimes my chest.
some days i cant walk.
sometimes it lasts for more then a day, one day later, they're back again!

the hardest thing is when you leave the home in a fair shape, and then later almost cant get home because of the pain.

i would however still see a doctor. cause often fibro is a misdiagnosis.

((hugs)) "

" Thank you all for your responce.

I know it isn't a gyn problem. I had a total histo. in '93, so don't think it would be causing anything now.

I see my rheumatologist on the 18th. I don't have a regular doc anymore. the one I did have move out of state this last March and I've haven't found one that will deal with the fibro, cfs, depression, ptsd (I see a counselor for the depression and ptsd).

Where would one get tonic water (quinine)?

I've thought about the er, but by the time I would get there the cramp would most likely be gone. The last cramp did leave me totally exhausted and even into the next day...not sure what they would do for me???

I take anti-spasm and a muscle relaxer, so I don't know on that either.

frenchy, I have had 2 surgeries to take-down adhesions in my abdomen. The first one was pretty bad they told me. They said that my desending colon was adhered to the abdomen wall, they did the laser thing and put a net on the colon so it would not re-adhere.

I wonder, is that it? I don't have any pain like I had with the other adhesions. I do have a rotten time with intestional cramps after eating, even when having a bm. Wish I had a regular doc to see about that, but he always said I was constipated or it was IBS.

I did see the doc that did the colonoscopy about adhesions but she insited that it was my gallbladder. I didn't agree with her on that so did not go back to her. However, about 5 months later I had to have my gallbladder removed, but the pain from that was totally different.

ok, enough whinning for one day.

Thanks again everyone. God bless "

" If its endo having a hysterectomy does not cure it. I had a hysterectomy last year and my symptoms have returned. Its very painful. Adhesions can also return as can scar tissue. everytime you are cut on can cause more adhesions and scar tissue to form. Its a very vicious cycle. i hate your dealing with this pain and hope you find a dr who can help! Take care and keep us posted on what you find out. "

" I'd definately see a doctor too! If you find there's nothing out of the oIrdinary, you may want to start taking a quality magnesium/potassium supplement. It helps with muscles and the digestive tract. Magnesium is helpful for fibro and the potassium works synergistically with the magnesium.

I've done lots of research on the best kind of magnesium (believe me, there's a bunch of different forms!) and I now take Country Life's magnesium potassium aspartate. Aspartate is the key here. It's the most bio available form of magnesium. In other words.....your body readily absorbs the mineral best in this form.

Keep in mind that low potassium can also cause all kinds of mystery cramping. I'd give it a try. But definately check with your doctor too. "
