Good advice. I usually pick up the CURE when I pick up an antibiotic prescription because I know how it is, but the last three times I've taken antibiotics, I didn't get a yeast infection - at all! Go figure.

Just when you think you've got it figured out, change slams you in the head.

the one I can usually count on...and I ALWAY oick up the script for it...Just in case..

but the rest of it I never even KNEW about...the Dr.s knew I was on some heavy hitters...why not Suggest it ? kinda Pisses me OFF...my Tongue is RAW from Super scrubbin it...I thought because I am eating just all soft foods..

so am a tad Pissed..nothing unusual..have learned MY lesson, just wanted to save someone Else from the same fate.

It is possible for all antibiotics to cause this because they kill the good bactria that keep yeast in check.

Also antibiotics like all other meds can have some serious side effects Levaquin this is one I will never take again and should be taken off the market.

As one of my doctors resently reminded me sometimes the cure can be worse than the illness. He said this in reference to my chemo treatment. It saved my life but the quality of my life still leaves alot of questions as to weather I did the right thing.

UGH yes the bestfriend yeast..... If you remember I was really sick the end of september and wound up in ICU. I was on penicillin 2 weeks prior to the icu, and on a kidney antiiotic 2 weeks prior to that.... so that was one month full.... Then when I was dicharged I was put on amoxicillin and that lasted for over 6 weeks as well... so 10 weeks of antibiotics. I was fortunant not to wind up with an oral yeast infection but I did end up with several yeast infections.... one in my vajayjay of cource and it lasted you guessed it more then 10 weeks... closer to 12. UGH that was miserable.... but I also got one in my nipples. SInce I have discarge there atm from colosterum from baby I developed a yeast infection there too. I was glad I wasnt trying to feed a baby out of those but omg the pain and discomfort. I never would have guessed I would get one there too. I also had a yeast infection in my bladder as well. that one didnt last as long but it still hurt.

Definantly the docs should warn about it better and maybe even start prescribing OTC treatments to try to avoid it. I think its aphadosolis (sp)that can help avoid a yeast infection. I think a lot of the yeast issues are usually female related. Notable enough my female docs do warn about the yeast... male docs not so much. granted you ended up with an oral by the sounds of it and men can get that but I dont think they think of it so much.

I have gotten t the point that 2 days after I start an antibiotic I start a long dose of monastat. The 3 day are really nice but if your still on the med it will jsut return. SO to help avoid it or to treat it as i take my antibiotic, I go for the 7 day or longer monistat treatment and start 2 days into the antibiotic. That way Im covered the whole ime im on the med at least on that front.

good luck on getting rid of that thrush. I know when my kids have gotten it it was painful and it just looks painful.... if I remember right warm tea is helpful to ease the discomfort

Yeast infections can develope in a number of areas in the body. Thrush in the mouth and throat and can also spread all the way down the esophagus is just one form. It can also take several treatments to get rid of completely.

Just went through this myself. :( Hope you are feeling better. Also remember your entire body has been "sterilized" by the antibiotic so you can get itching and a yeast infection anywhere on your body.

When taking antibiotics it is a good idea to eat PLAIN yogurt. any kind with fruit in them contain sugar and cause the yeast to grow. ALSO, do not eat the yogurt or ANY milk or cheese product at the same time you take the antibiotic because it causes the antibiotic to be ineffective. My motto is, when taking antibiotics, do eat anything white because most foods that are white breaks down into sugar. Garlic also work well in destroying yeast.

Why don't they tell ya ?? I woulda been on the Nystatin at First sign...instead of just REALLY Pissing Off my mouth with super rinsing and scrubbin...

Good Lord...could take Multiple Treatments ?? this Nystatin is 2 weeks Long of treatments...4 times everyday,....thank the Good Lord it does not taste bad, but the phone always Rings just as I get the stuff in my mouth...Yes, I Ignore the Phone..

Anyway...thanx girls letting me know I am not alone...just hope & Pray if anyone else is on long term, high dosage antibiotics to watch out for This !!

Fluconazole is another med you can take in tablet form my doctor has me take two at the first sign of trush and then one tablet once a week for two weeks. This does have it's own side effects like most meds. This should not be used if pregnant or nursing a baby.

I got alot of these infections during my cancer treatment because my immune system was so suppressed and still get them with antibiotics regardless of the abount of probiotics I take.

They also have a white losenger that you allow to disolve on your tounge usually five a day and I think that is ten days. I can't remember the name.

All of these may have to be repeated if it hasn't cleared up or comes back. I prefer the tablets only because it's easier but I do use the others depending on how often I end up with a yeast infection.

I tend to get ear infections at least twice a year that require antibotics.

can you take the Pill form at the same time as the Swish & swallow ?

I have 2 of the Diflucan...I guess the pharmacist didn't say I shouldn't take em at the same time...I Planned on taking the other Diflucan on Tuesday..that would be 5 days from when I took the first one..

yea, this swish & swallow stuff is not so bad...just kinda makes me a bit sick to my tummy..hopefully I will not have to take it the FULL 2 weeks, they said to take it for 48 hours After symptoms are gone..
