I now have bursitis in both sides of my hip. Anyone out there have this same problem and what toll does this take on you. What did the doctor say and do. I hope this does not put me in wheel chair. Any input will help...Thanks

" I have tendonitis and bursitis in my right hip and osteoarthritis in my left hip and physical therapy helps loosen it up but it wont go away tendonitis can heal but bursitis comes and goes like bad arthritis but its tiny little sacs filled with fluid and if not treated with antiflamatory meds and physical therapy you can be in a wheel chair because each time the little sacs comes out they can harden around the joints causeing mobility hard and painful, and leave scar tissue and only pain medication will just cover on top of the pain not the deep pain. " I was diagonesed with bursitis about four years ago this was the first year I had a cortesone shot. Because of the pain from fibro I can't tell which is which. I can't remember the snickers he recommended but if you talk to your doctor maybe he can recommend one. A good pair of walking shoes makes a big difference in hip and back pain. I couldn't afford the one that was recommended but I did get a pair from walmarts that had good arch support.

You might ask your doctor about PT the PT therapist will probably give you really good advice too.

The bigest thing is to keep moving. Water exercises therapy is good for this too. "

" About 4 years ago I took a 9 mile hike around one of the lakes in our area. 6 miles in, my hips started hurting. I couldn't sleep on my sides for a few nights. Pain would come while trying to sleep after that but I didn't think anything of it. About 2 months ago I went and saw a rheumy for fibro symptoms. She put her hands on my hips - barely touching them - I couldn't even feel her hands and I was just sitting there and she told me I had bursitis in my hips. I showed her NO signs of pain, she barely touched me. I have no idea how she decided that one. She also told me I had fibro without even doing the tender point test. I dumped her like a bag of bad potatoes. "

" Gee Holy, did you go to a doc in Hagerstown? That sounds so familiar!

Bursitis is rather common and is usually worse in cold weather, more common in women who have had children from what I understand. I get it in my hips as well. After a few days the soreness goes away. Symptomatic treatment with heat, meds, and rest usually does the trick for me. Once or twice I have had to get steroid injections but they have been in my shoulders. "

" LOL! Felt more like the Twightlight Zone or isn't there a little Kaiser Clinic in Northern California called "I'll Tell You Everything You DON'T Want To Hear - and then give you a pill for it". Yeah, I think that's where I ended up. Lame-o doctors... "

" I was diagnosed with this approx 3 weeks ago and found yet again that heat was the most effective treatment. I purchased and electric blanket that tou lay on top of and can be left on through the night. This has helped my sleep and eased the pain dramatically. I also use a Tens machine xx "

" I have recently diagnosed with this in my left hip, or at least that is what the Dr thinks is wrong. He gave me some shots in the bursa. Been really sore since that day. Hope it calms down soon, he said that if the shots don't help that I might have a nerve impingment. I have been using a wheel chair since late Feb 2009 because it is too painful for me to walk long distances. Can walk short ones with use if my cane. "
