Is this kind of pain unusual?

So- I've not found reference to it, but it reminds me of how my trigger points feel.

What I'm talking about is any pressure on my bones, ribs especially are so painful, but even taking my fingers to the bones in my arm - a poke any where, or grabbing at any of the bones in my body, create a very large amount of pain.

My ribs, like I said before, are my worst - just touching them can bring me to the floor. But, I can't even let my dogs lay on top of me much any more, and my computer has to be set on an extra large cutting board, so that the edges don't dig into my bones in my legs (lap top).

I'm not entirely sure if this is a normal pain symptom - because if it isn't I should probably speak with a doctor.

So - am I strange, or is this not uncommon?

" Being To Tender To Be Touched is Normal...from your Skin all the way down to your Bones is Normal...mine is usually right in the Skin, or in the Fascia right Under the skin...makes me Physically ILL to be Touched in many areas..

I don't understand it..

I Know I Cannot allow my cat to lay on me...he used to Love to lay on my hips whenever I was on the floor to do stretches, he would come up and plop himself down on the hip that was up...he has not been able to do that in several years..

A Touch Feels like a Knuckle Punch...is awful sweetie...I am a "Physical Woman"...I Show Affection Physically...no longer can...and am Afraid I have offended some of my older Friends who were So used to Hugging me...I would literally Jump back...scared they were gonna hit a bad spot on me !! "

" Well, I don't know you so I can't really say if you're strnge or not. haha just kiddin'

I do have times when my ribs hurt. Right now I am having a lot of nerve pain - just started this morning and for the first time - it hurts to have anyone touch me.

But the other day, I kept getting pains like someone was taking a baseball bat and hitting me as hard as they culd with it. I guess that could feel like a broken bone, but thankfully it goes away after awhile.

Hope you feel better soon, Ter "

" I do feel pain in what feels like my bones. My ribs are very tender as are my hips and knees. In fact, I've had to take my bra off before because I can't stand the pain on the sides of my ribcage. Too much information??? Sorry! If you are concerned because this pain is new, it may be better to get it checked out. Better safe than sorry...hope you feel better. "

" teeann, I have done the bra thing in the middle of WALMART! I can't stand it sometimes. And I've even moved up a bra size, just so that I can wear one for some support, but it stops cutting into my ribs.

But the pain isn't necessarily new - its more that its increasing in severity. I've always had sore to the touch ribs, but now - even a light touch feels like a knife. And the areas around my bones are getting to the previous rib pain level...if that makes sense.

I'm just not sure if it could be a sign of something else or if its the Fibro just progressing...*shrugs* If it gets too bad, I suppose I'll talk to a doctor or something... "

" Your pain sounds like it's myofascial pain which can be incredibly painful depending on the location.

If you're up to it, you might think about learning how to do trigger point massage on yourself. It can be very painful, but it has enabled me to go from being in one form of pain or another 24/7 to only having much pain at night--and I think a lot of that has to do with the hormonal changes as I approach menopause. When my hormones are under control, my pain is minimal most of the time--and it's all from doing trigger point massage.

A great resource is the book featured at triggerpointbook.com. "

" I have also heard good things about trigger point massage. My childhood friend has had fibro for 20 years and she has it done to her. She says its painful, but she feels better afterward. I don't have the money to hire someone and I don't think I could do it to myself. I completely understand what you are talking about though. I have constant rib pain. My cat likes to lie on my chest. I don't mind her lying on my chest for a short time, but when she starts to walk on my chest, I want to die. It is SO painful. I have pain in my ribs 24/7, but if I put any pressure on my ribs, I feel like I'm being stabbed. I had never heard of anybody else having this so I am relieved. Sad for you, but relieved that I am not the only one. My first appt with the Rheumy and he did the trigger point test where he pushed on my upper chest ever so slightly, I wanted to hit him. I actually teared up in pain and was in severe pain for days. You are not strange! Well I guess if you were than I would be too! Take care. "

" My pain is mostly in my feet, ankles, shins, knees. Sometimes they actually feel like they are broken and the pain shoots straight up the bones to the kneecaps. When the pain subsides then the muscles in my legs are sore. It seems we all have strange symptoms. I think maybe we were all abducted by aliens and experimented on, LOL! Seriously though, fibro presents in a lot of different ways. My niece's fibro started with a feeling like she was being choked and her voice is really hoarse. "

" Last year or earlier this year I had a real problem with my ribs. I couldn't even lay down comfortably. I went to the doctor to see if it was costiochondritis (sp), but she said no, it was just muscle pain. I've had broken ribs before and it was a similar feeling. Not good.

It went on for about 4 months and then just went away and ran down to some other part of my body.

It does bother me from time to time still. "

" Thanks so much for all the encouragements. :D Its always nice to know you aren't the odd one out.

Also - thanks for the advice about the myofascial pain. I had been looking into it, trying to figure out if some of my symptoms could be caused from that.

I'll definitely give it a shot - hopefully I'll be able to order that workbook, as I don't want to do something wrong and then make it much worse. :)

Thanks All!! "
