Happy Thanksgiving Eve and Holiday Ideas

Happy Wednesday November 25, 2009.

Did you know that today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women? Well it is and I think it's a good one.

It is also the day before the National Pig Fest in the US ....most people know it as Thanksgiving, but the truth is that it is a Pig Fest. Many people are cooking already in preparation for tomorrow. Traditionally it is the most traveled holiday, but travel is off this year because of the economy. Sad

Did you know that you can dry your clothes faster, by putting an old tennis ball in with the clothes?The tennis ball keeps separating the clothes, which lets them dry and can cut your energy cost by
25%.

Did you know that the fibers on a tennis ball will erase black scuff marks from your floors? Cut a cross in the ball and put it on top of your broom handle, when you find a mark, flip that broom like a Ninja Warrior and Rub it out.

Did you know that you can donate your old cards to St. Jude's Ranch for Children? It is a home for abused children. The kids take the donated cards and make new one out of them, then sell them to raise money for the home. StJudesRanch.org can tell you more about it.

Did you know that you can make your own post cards? The inside,left side, in back of the card cover, is usually blank on most cards. You can cut off this right side of the card, draw a line down the center of the card. write your message on the left of this line and the address on the right side, pop a stamp in the corner and drop it in the mail. You have saved postage money, expensive card money, saved 2/3 of the paper used for cards, and recycled. This is a Win/Win Situation all around.

Well Chanukah, Kwanza, and Christmas are soon upon us, and I am not ready at all. I would love to start tomorrow's message asking for some shared holiday traditions or tricks and tips for saving some money and time on gifts. I would like to add a request for ideas each day during the month of December. So put your thinking caps on and if you have any ideas to share, I would be very appreciative.

Did you know that I hope you find 100 reasons to smile today.

" Happy Turkey Eve Day!!!

D, I like the Day to prevent abuse to women. I hope people recognize this all year long!

And that St Jude thing is cool. I'll have to save my holiday cards and forward them on.

It's Gobble Gobble Eve....and out plans just sort of dissolved yesterday. Little Danno has the sniffles and Little Jakey (my nephew) has them too. So, we're postponing our events until Sunday on a we'll see how everyone is doing basis. With mom still having a young bone-marrow in her....she's still at really high risk since her immune system is that of a childs.

So, I just may take tomorrow and make my caramels.
This weekend will be busy for us. My SIL is coming into town, Sat we have the hubsters family Turkey Day...and Sunday as mentioned above.

D, I love the tips on the Tennis balls! I wonder if the larger sized ones (in the dog stores) will help the clothes dry faster? Hmmm.....
And I like the tennis ball ninja warrior wand/ broom idea. I just put on my running shoes and do the twist on the floor. I'm actually obsessed by this. I'll even do it at the grocery stores. It's an illness. Do they have a support group for such an obsession?

And I love your ideas about sharing our stories/ ideas! I'll put on my thinker and see what comes out!

Hope everyone has a great day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And it's a must.....here are some Happy T-Day Groaners:
Which side of the turkey has the most feathers?
The outside!
Can a turkey jump higher than the Empire State Building?
Yes. A building can't jump at all!
What did the turkey say to the turkey hunter?
“Quack, quack, quack!”
What are the feathers on a turkey’s wings called?
Turkey feathers!
If the Pilgrims were alive today what would they be most famous for?
Their age!
When the Pilgrims landed, where did they stand?
On their feet!
What key has legs and can't open doors?
A turkey!
How do you keep a turkey in suspense?
I’ll let you know next week! "
" D, you are a GREAT female. You remind me of my deceased great-grandmother who used to send her birthday, Christmas cards to St. Jude. I like the idea of putting an old tennis ball in with the clothes in the dryer. I will have to tell my mom this and we will see if it works. I will have some ideas for the daily tips and ideas for December. I have a few in mind to start with. Also, I like the idea of saying what you are thankful for. We have a fresh turkey to eat tomorrow. Yesterday it was brined and tomorrow it will be cooking with an orange, sage and rosemary inside of it. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE SOUTH OF THE CANADIAN BORDER! "
" Happy day to all the boys and girls. Today I'm making pies and cookies. I grew pumpkins in my garden this year so it'll be fresh this year. Spritz cookies for all my 3 yr. old great nephews.
My sister is making blackberry pie - yum!
i love the jokes, Wonder. I have an 11 year old nephew I can impress with them - or persecute. Thanks.
I made pumpkin puree and some cookies last night. I'm so sore! Pathetic!
That's a neat trick with the tennis ball - unless you have a dog who thinks all balls are hers... I'll have to remove my scuffs in secret. "
" LOL Unkuki, I have to hide the balls from Chips too. He just does not understand why a ball on my broom is any different from a ball to fetch. Blackberry pie? I have never even seen one. It sounds great. There is nothing like fresh pumpkin pie. Good for you Hon. I bet your house smells wonderful
Ah Tori, thank you so much for the memory of my mom's cooking. She is dead now for 15 years, but all day long, I have been remembering what a fantastic cook she was and how much I love her. I hope you have a wonderful day with your mom.
Brown, you have made my heart smile. Thank you so much for your kind words. I have never had a brined turkey and your stuffing sounds amazing. I will have to try that next year. I hope you have a great day with your family
Hey there Fancy Pants, thank you so much for the well wishes. I used to know when your Thanksgiving is, but I forget now. That was very thoughtful of you to wish us all a happyday. You are the best.
I am very thankful for all of you, my dear, loving, supportive, friends "
