I was really going to try to get through life without pain meds but tonight I finally caved and emailed my doctor for some. I told her I didn't want anything that would screw up my brain or hurt me in the long run if I'm on for a long time.
Could you'all tell me what pain meds work for you and if you feel they are safe. I know any med could screw you up. But I'm just looking for a pain killer to go along with the Tranxene which is a muscle relaxer/calmer downer (anti-anxiety). And that I can take only when I need it. Thanks Buddies! I take vicoden and ultram. ultram can be kinda hard to learn how to take and make it affective but once you figure it out it can be a god send. I have taken it for 15+ years on and off mostly on and not felt any bad affects mentally nor physically from it. MY organs are all still working great. might be something worth trying.

I take hydrocodone (vicodin). I'm not sure how I could function without it...I tried ultram but it didn't do anything for my pain. I am not pain free with the hydrocodone but it is at least tolerable.

I have to take hydracodone. I take it in moderation but there are times I cannot live without it.
Tramadol can be good too but it does make me sleepy.

Wow, It must be nice to just email your dr and say "I need pain pills" and you actually get to pick which one you want? Everyone of us is different and respond to meds differently. I hope that the pain pills help:)

Thank you all.
It is great to be able to email my doctors because they will give me suggestions and then I can research online and then let them know what I'll do. I can't take the Ibuprofen cause it gave me an ulcer when I was using it for kidney stones and it was also in the Advil cold & sinus that I was taking. But, I do have a bunch of vicodin here from the kidney stones and from having my wisdom teeth pulled last year. I'll see what the doc says and if she doesn't mention them, I will. I just need to make sure whatever it is isn't going to mess with the Tranxene or the thyroid med. or the acid reflux med. (sigh) Thanks again, Ter

My doctors would never give out there emails. LOL! They don't even want to spend more than 10 min with me when I see them in person.
I started out on Darvocet when I had tarsal tunnel surgery. Then a pain doc put me on Norco (just like Vicodin) and Tramadol (just like Ultram). Tramadol/Ultram didn't do a thing for me. I have really good success with the Norco. They give me 4 a day, but I only take 3 on most days. It doesn't take away my pain, but it sure does relieve a lot of it and makes life more bearable for me. Everyone is different though. You just have to keep trying different things until you find something that works for you.
