I am so tired of being addicted to cigarettes and today I will quit. I need some suggestions from you that have kickd your nicotine habit. I am not willing to take any drugs to help break my habit, I dont need another med added to what I take. When I have quit in the past it was before FM diagnosis and I was able to cope better with withdrawals. Please give me your tips on how you coped. Thank you.

Congradulations !! I Quit MANY Times before I actually made it...
The Biggest thing, is to NOT do much of what you would Do when you Smoke...Like chatting it up on the Phone...hang around in Non-Smoking Places...the desire is SO much Less when ur Not smelling it !! The worst time is the First 2 weeks...ur body may Demand some Nicotine...Feed it something healthy instead...or even some licorice...the hand to mouth thing is HUGE !! after I quit, there were a few times I did light up...but the rank taste in my mouth made me put it back out.. This is about Health...your Lungs will start Healing right away..the inside of ur body heals just like the ouitside once the irratant is Gone.. this is about Restrictions...there are Only So many places you can go & have a smoke...I have heard that they are going to start Banning people from Places because of 3rd hand smoke...IF you Smell like Smoke there are many places you will not be able to go in the Future.. This is about Finances...Figure it up...I am not even gonna tell you what I was Smoking/Spending..YIKES !! Do this for You..don't Freak urself out about it..that is a guaranteed way to fail at it...just Keep yourself as Busy as you can...in as many Non Smoking Places as you can..don't talk to anyone about it...see how long it takes everyone to Notice that your Not Smoking !! and IF you Fail...don't beat urself Up...just set a New STOP date !! Try til you succeed !! YeaY !!

I quit over two years ago. I did use the drug Chantix for one month and the nicotine cartridges for two. The prescribed catridges came with maybe a hundred or so, can't remember. But anytime I had a craving I would puff on it for a while and gradually all cravings left. WhenI ran out of cartridges I was done. It also helped that my husband quit three years before me and most restaurants are turning non-smoking. Now I am so sensitive to smoke. I never thought I would be one of "those people" that avoid it at all cost. That is just so weird. Change where you hang out. Throw out any reminders and most of all if you smoke indoors get help to clean thoroughly. I know that's hard to do with the pain and fatigue of Fibro, maybe you can hire someone. I am here for you whenever you need encouragement. For me the third time was a charm! Support and Hugs!

I quit during a pregnancy - easy to do until the cravings kick in. My now ex-husband took me over to his mother's house when I got too weak. There were at least 6 people at any given time smoking in the tiny living room - gross.
The thing is, I quit smoking 26 years ago and I still have that hand to mouth thing. Mints help some. Best never to start, eh?

thanks all. I have a feeling the "hand to mouth" is going to be my biggest challenge. I hate that I smoke so bad that even if I have weight gain it will be better than smoking. I know so few people that smoke anymore, I really am the last of family and friends that still smoke. I am thinking I will use the mints idea to help me with the oral fixation.

Good luck! You can do this ! I quit one year ago while in the hospital with Pneumonia. I decided I'd quit then and there after 40 years of smoking ! I was so drugged up that it was easier than trying at home. The hard part was when I finally did get home and had those nasty nicotine urges, but I didn't give in. I'm still shocked that I'm doing this, but I don't want to be a prisoner to cigarettes any more. They were killing me and I knew it! If you get mad enough, you will quit. Best of luck!
Hugs to all of you for trying!

I am really struggling with this again. I moved to a new place and am not able to smoke inside. I'm so tired of smoking and want to quit so bad. I'm just so addicted after smoking for 35 years.
I tried Chantix about 3 yrs ago and had a horrible experience. I felt suicidal, had terrible leg cramps and horrendous nightmares. Then I spent a lot of money to get hypnotized. That didn't work either. Now I'm doing patches and gum and using "smoke deter". Nothing is working. If you find something that works let me know.

I'm going on 8 years smoke free on January 1st (cold turkey). I have quit and started in the past (a few times) but this is my final quit. I sat on my couch and cried and ate chocolate for 3 days! LOL
Good luck to you and I wish you success!
