" You might have active myofascial trigger points that is causing the pain. I had one once in my butt that felt like I literally had an arrow sticking in me that lasted for around 10 days. Finally, I went to the walk-in clinic to no avail. Later I learned that what it was and have been able to keep them under control with trigger point massage.

If you don't know much about myofascial pain, check out triggerpointbook.com. I can't tell you the difference in my life since learning to do trigger point massage on myself. I still have some pain, but it's mostly due to hormonal fluxations as I lurch into menopause. When my hormones are 'stable,' my pain in minimal 90% of the time. "

" Here's a few ideas that may help. Of course I'm not a doctor, so you may want to see your doc first.

There are a few osteopathic exercises you can do to relieve the pain. Put a pillow under your thigh, then have someone raise that same leg about a foot off the bed or massage table (sort of in the air). Relax your leg and allow the person to hold your leg. Next, have them press rhythmically over 120 times in the SAME spot with their thumb on your sciatic nerve (area that hurts). The last time I got this done was over a year ago and it's just NOW starting to hurt again. Time for a treatment.

2. sleep with a small pillow between your legs.

3. Get a wedge cushion for your computer chair. Chances are the edge of the seat is causing your sciatic and other nerves in that area and the back of your thighs to be pinched.

4. get a GOOD butt massage!!!! Use Voltaren gel, grape seed oil or Xylocaine (contains lidocaine) and get someone to massage the entire butt, legs and back areas!

5. Get Lidocaine injections. This is what I'm finally doing as my sacroiliac, hips and sciatic areas are in horrible pain. So far, it's helping quite a bit.

6. see a chiropractor and Reflexologist.

7. Try Acetyl L-Carnitine, low dose Naltrexone (RX), Savella or Boswella. "

" I don't know if it helped but last Christmas I was having something similar to what you describe. What I did was lay on my fist or kind of pound the area with my fist and also massaged the area. It went away after a bit. I don't know if it was the pounding massage or what. Fibro is pretty mysterious like that. "

" This is actually the first sign my daughter had at the start of her spinal cord disease, Transverse Myelitis. When she went to the doctor for it, she told the doctor her bum was numb. The doctor smacked her and asked if she felt it. My daughter said yes and the doctor said "then you're not numb, you're just stressed out." A-hole

TM is like MS and the more I learn about fibro, the more I see it as a neurological problem even though my neuro. wrote me off and said to do what ever my rheumy says and my rheumy said to do whatever my regular doctor says. A-holes again (can you tell I like doctors?) "
