I've had that feeling a few times but I also have Hashimoto's so I just figured it was my thyroid. But, I don't know. This is all so new to me and I'm still trying to pinpoint what pain or weirdness goes with what illness that has attacked me. ;-)

Yes I have this problem. No turtlenecks cause i feel like I'm choking all the time. I pull at my shirt necks constantly and have even broken some necklaces. Gave up on them. Sometimes I can hardley swallow. I can't swallow big pills. My throat feels constricted a lot. Cough a lot cause I feel like I'm choking on my own spit. Wierd. My Aunty has Fibro an has the same issue.

Oh Gawd! Yes! Sometimes it really hurts - if I'm dry - so I drink a lot of water just to keep my throat wet. Greasy food can help - sometimes I just swallow a tsp. of olive oil. Gross, huh?

I also have to be careful how I swallow or sip water. Sometimes, I'll choke and then gag and choke some more - making my head hurt really bad. It usually makes me cry.

Taking pills can be impossible - stuck pills are why I started with the tsp. of olive oil.

Muscle spasms seems to explain it best. I've had several tests done but everything came back normal - like everything else with FM.

Sorry you are having this problem can be scarry and would difinitely discuss this with your doctor and would ask him/her about myositis. I have experience this but has not happened often so has not been a concern of mine at this point.

yes i know how u feel i had severe swallowing problems to the point of not being able to eat or drink without the feeling of having something stuck in my throat; therefore had to have my throat dialated.i think it has to do with the fibro and muscle spasms

yep i get this too!..pills get stuck all the time..or i just cough,like my throat closes up?..i am astmatic but its not my astma...so strange..dam shit it is....

Yes me too. even trying to drink water seems to make me gag and cough as if I'm choking.

Me also. I 've already had my esophagus stretched and I need it done again. My problem caused by acid reflux, however.

I get that strange choking feeling...like there's something stuck deep in my throat when I swallow....but there's nothing there and there's little difficulity getting things down. I went to the ER for it about a year ago, when I first got sick, because it felt like I was being strangled and I couldn't swallow without gagging and almost throwing up. They, of course, couldn't find anything. Now I take ibuprofen when it happens and hope for the best.
