Embarassed to ask...?

Greetings,

I was diagnosed with FMS in July. I have experienced a manageable amount of pain using Neurontin 400 mg 3 X daily. The pain has been from the shoulders to the small toe on my right foot. I also take Norco for pain . Last week I started a new medication, 60mg of Cymbalta once daily.

My question has to do with pain experienced by folks with FMS. Over the last few days I have had a constant pain in the center of my back a little above the center. It has been constant but not disabling. In the last hour I have had two instant attacks that have been extremely painful. They had come on without warning and have been so severe that I have cried out.

This pain is unlike anything I've experienced before. It is horrific. Then a minute later its gone. I'm moving again but still feel some pain. Then instantly it returns. I cried out in the store earlier and couldn't help it. It was embarrassing.

This is all new to me, can anyone tell me if this sounds like what you experience? Thanks so much in advance. I'm going to bed now.

" Hey Zawg.

Never be embarrassed to ask. That is what this board is all about.

I often have pain that makes me yelp out loud. I hate it when it happens because I don't want to frighten anybody and I certainly don't want to draw any attention to myself.

I have had pain in the rib cage area that is so painful I can't lay on it and it will be like that for a few months then just go away or travel somewhere else. And I've had pain in my upper back that feels like a pinched nerve. Sometimes it feels like a broken collar bone or a dislocated shoulder. It's so hard to tell if it could be something else not related to FM, because it's always on the move. "

" Hi ZDawg,

I have been having pain in that exact place off and on all day today. I told my girls that it felt like someone put my muscle in a vise and was turning it and squeezing it as tight as they could.

This is all new to me too so trying to explain what's going on really has my imagination going so that they get a full picture. "

" I would go get it checked out...could be nothing more then a Pissed Off Nerve...could be something a bit more serious..is it a Shooting Pain ?? Does it hit and Stay in One spot ? is it super sharp like someone has just stabbed you ?

Could be a gall bladder attack...gould be gas..I Feel Horrendous Gas Pains all the time...but they usually Shoot thru ya..

Is it real Close to the Spine ? could be ya Pinched one of the Nerves...YIKES !! That'll make ya YELP !! but if there is a duller Pain all the time...with Sharp occasional, I Would get ur Butt in and get it Checked..ask for an Immediate CT of the area...hell...I would even go to the ER so ya don't hafta wait 2 weeks for the Results !!

Let us Know !! "

" Hi Zdawg, things like this I truely believe you should see your doctor and make sure it is not something else. I think it is best to be safe. It may be from FM but those types of pains should be checked out as can be other things going on.

take care "

" Hi ZDawg,
That pain sounds like pain I had when my gallbladder was flaring up. Intense pain in the center of my back, but also around what I call the "brastrap line". It would come and go, and was excrutiationg. I would get it checked out, just in case. I had to have mine removed.
I'm on Cymbalta and don't have any pain like that, the cymbalta actualy helps somewhat with the FM pain.
I also take Neurontin, 600 mg 3x a day and it helps alot. I know when I miss a dose thats for sure!
Good luck seeking the cause of the pain. "

" Sorry your having to deal with this. I get what I call sevre cramps like charlie horses that last from a few seconds to a few minutes, in several areas mostly around my heart neck and calves doctors don't know what to tell me.

Hope you can find out what is causing your pain and get it taken care of.

Hugs "

" Z, I'd see your doc and ask him for a back xray. I have that exact same spot of pain and my doc showed me a diagram of why that area, affects my sacroiliac and hip area. He's currently using Lidocaine injections to deaden the nerves there. So far, so good. I had an xray done and it will show if I'm getting sent to the Neurosurgeon and get an MRI or not.

I've also had gall bladder and kidney stone attacks that start in the back and side, makes me lose my breath, gave me nausea and horrific pain. I ended up rocking on the ER floor. I finally got it out at 21.

I see a chiropractor as well as a Reflexologist. Both help to realign the spin and the Reflexology is wonderful and relaxing. "
