Withdrawal from Flexeril?

Is it even possible?
I recently went to the doctor for a follow up appointment and we both agreed that flexeril wasn't doing very much for me. I didn't think I felt any differently, and I thought I was still pretty tired all the time. We decided we would try some other combination of medication instead. It wasn't suggested for me to slowly wean off the meds, so I didn't really think of it. However due to money restraints, I have been unable to fill my new prescriptions for the past week, and I have been completely medication free. I feel like a truck has run over me every single morning. No matter how much sleep I get, I have to literally drag myself from myself dog, and even then I just move myself to the couch where I end up napping more (thankfully I am on holidays this week!) I am also in so much pain, it is almost unbearable, so now I thinking Flexeril was doing more then I thought? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Posted on 11/01/09, 11:11 am |

I was on Flexeril 4Xs a day for 6 years for myopic tics. Doctor took me off of it in May and I noticed right away the difference. My left side spasms now uncontrolably all day am back to where I started with them.

I thought they had stopped working for me so cut back to one a day and wow the extra pain so I think they just don't make me feel as relaxed as they once did but do still work. I take 3 to 4 a day now. I do know it is the biggest culprit out of my meds for dumbing down my mind and I do not like that. I miss having a sharp, creative mind with a sharp memory but then there's the 24/7 pain so got to make a trade-off here.

If I don't take Flexeril I have terrible muscle spasms. I think that since they don't always make a person feel "different" we tend to think they aren't working (I went through that), and then when we go off and the spasms start back up, we see that they really have been working for us.

Stopping any med suddenly esp when you have been on it a long time can sap your energy. The flexeril helps with restorative sleep, , pain, & stiffness so maybe you are feeling worse for those symptoms plus the illness, and the shock the body might be in being med free all of a sudden. (Hey Sam...) I hope you get back on some meds that make sense for you right away. I know what it feels to be where you are. That has happened to me during medication changes.

I'm seeing a lot of FM'ers having less endurance to prescription drug withdrawal. I quit smoking before I got sick but I wonder if quiting smoking or drinking is harder for FM'ers. (Quitting either isn't easy for anyone) I wonder if anyone doing CFS/FM research has noticed this yet.

I started taking flexril about a month ago for restless leg syndrome and muscle twitches, I take 3 at nite, and i have noticed that i do not have the pain in the morning, and actually i have been doing pretty good all thru the day, very minimal pain, it's does alot more for me than painkillers, i like flexril, its not a narcotic, and i dont feel any sides effects at all.
