Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Pain

I've been on Gabapentin for about a year now. I have never really thought it was doing much good, but I took it anyway, made my docs happy.

But after putting on a lot of weight, and thinking Gabapentin might be the culprit, I decided to get off. I didn't make it very long. I weaned off like I should, and then stopped. The Mack Truck that hit me didn't even stop to look!!!!!!!!!!!! No, seriously, the pain came rushing back pretty quick. Not an unbearable pain, but definitely nerve pain. So on it again I am.

How many of you get relief from Neurontin (Gabapentin)?

" I wasn't a survivor on Neurontin/ Gabapentin. Took it once....had extreme rage. Couldn't take that chance again.

But what I have learned about this med is that you can increase the milligram strength as the pain continues. Did your doc ever increase it? Please don't take my word on this but it's an outrageous amount...something like into 3000-6000mg. But again, please check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Good luck. I hate that these meds make us gain weight! Dang it if we do and dang it if we don't! "

" I have been on it since Feb. 2009. It really helps for me. I am also on Cymbalta, which helps with the horrible fatigue. And, yes, I gained a bunch of weight. Oh well... "

" I took it for awhile but it really didn't help much and made me uncomfortably loopy. Doc wanted to increase the dosage but I wanted off.

There are other things. I honestly think we're better off not messing with these drugs that have the withdrawals. They aren't curing us, the good effects don't last much longer than a few years and stopping them puts us in more pain that it's worth.

I ca't believe the medical community is so slow in catching on. "
