I know people who have fibromyalgia who have taken Prednisone. Is there a connection? Have you taken it in the past, before you had fibro?

" I have taken it. It is a steroid. The only side effect I remember is that it gave me the munchies (like most steriods do). It was perscribed to me to clean out my system (my meds had me out of whack). It is not a fibromyalgia specific drug. Hope that helps. "

" I was on prednisone for really bad allergies. it is not a drug that you can take for long periods of time. It works great and every ache and pain you have is gone, but it affects your liver and because I have diabetes also, the prednisone use contributed to severe cataracts in both eyes in about 1 year.
Prednisone was originally a cancer drug( i think?) "

" Prednisone is a corticosteroid..It is used for alot of conditions but since fibro is not an inflammatory disease I cannot imagine why it would be used unless you had a co existing condition..If you are thinking about it causing fibro..well it can do a job on your liver but since fibro is most likely a neurological disorder I cannot imagine how there could be a connection..

" Of course there could be a connection between fibromyalgia and steroids. Do your research. Steroids can affect every part of the body, including the brain, especially the brain. The most recent research indicates that fibro may be a brain condition. Everyone who responded to this thread so far said that they had taken steroids in the past. What about others? Is there a connection? Please let me know if you have ever taken Prednisone in the past for any condition. I took it for chronic hives. A common reason people take it is for respiratory problems. "

" Was on prednisone about 8 years ago..my fibro was in a major flare, my autoimmune panel was coming back messed up but no one could figure out why, and I actually felt like I was dying. Went on for about 8 weeks. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't - packed on 40 lbs and it totally changed my metabolism.
Blessings,
Jan "

" I took a pack of them last year this time after my car accident, for my ruptured & bulging discs. Didn't really do anything but make all my muscles ache. I felt like I could barely lift my limbs and it made my cycle go all crazy. Other than that, nothing. That was the first time I'd taken them, but I've had fibro-like symptoms for over a decade. "
