Is it true that us FB patients do not have REM sleep............... I do believe the dr told me this................... I mean REM is the most important sleep of the night?

I would like to hear from others who have this and what form of treatment they are on.

I am told to exercise, but Im too tired and its painful.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also can anyone recommend the best book to read on this topic... when I search online there seems to be so much to choose from and its confusing. I look forward to hearing from you all. It is a hellofa way to live.

Love Sue

" If you have not had a sleep study, it's a good idea to get one. Alot of us have sleep apnea and problems with the different stages of sleep. I have sleep apnea and I don't go into all the stages of sleep and the ones I do go into are very short. "

" I can't use the cpa machine I tried for a year and I just couldn't do it because of facial pain. I talked to my doctor about trying just plain oxygen and he's set me up with an appointment to see if my oxygen level will justify the use of oxygen and he thinks I will have no problen getting approved because of other health problems too.

I hope you find something that works for you soon.

I was doing ok for awhile but my asthma has me on prednisone andt that has me wired so I will me on and off all night for the next couple of weeks.

I've had several doctors recommend a book and that has alot of helpful ideas. As soon as I find it I'll Post the name. "

" My doc gave me Trazodone to improve my sleep. On the very next morning I awoke rested for the first time in years. I'm not kidding. Trazodone is a mild antidepressant used more and more frequently for just this purpose. It is an old drug. I like old drugs because they are cheaper and their side effects are well documented. This one causes dry mouth. I use dry mouth mouthwash and gum at night.

It must just calm down the REM so you can get deep sleep. It worked for me! "

" Trazadone has been a good one for me-have been on it for 6yrs. I also take flexaril to try to minimize the muscle spasms. I still wake up with pain during the night, but am able to fall back to sleep easily.
Blessings,
Angel "

" I think that most of us do have sleep problems, I take ambien and I make good sleep a priority. I try to go to sleep at the same time every night, warm bath, lavender scent etc. I know that you are very tired and sore but please try to do stretching and walking, even if you walk 10 mins at a time at a slow pace. Getting back into moving more was the hardest thing I did after diagnosis but I believe it vital. I wish you well. "
